Querida amiga, tengo un gran cofre lleno, ja, ja, ja y todav�a faltan muchos muchos m�s, un saludo.

What a great soundtrack. I don’t understand how I managed to miss this one, right from the heart of Goldsmith’s greatest period, too. It’s a really beautiful piece of work, if too short, prompting the record company to again pad it to make a complete version. Before anyone commits to a permanent copy, if people still do such things, listen to cuts 11 and 13 (I think). Cut #11 is the only thing in the score that dates the music and boy does it date the music – a horrible out of place disco tune. And the second track after the disco cut begins normally but almost immediately turns into some kind of jarring cartoon music. While everything else on the album is great, it’s unlikely that anyone will want to hear either of these a second (or even first) time. The two cuts really makes you wonder about the movie and what Goldsmith was forced to watch.
But what a great, amazing year it was for Goldsmith – The Great Train Robbery, Alien, Players, and ST TMP – and what a magic year for us.
Thank you for letting those of us who missed the cd have a chance at the complete 1979. Fantastic!

01. Players seems wildly out of place as it sounds like it belongs in any and all tv space-adventures, instead of the story of a rising tennis star (Dean Paul Martin) who falls for an older woman (Ali MacGraw) who is unhappily involved with a millionaire (Maximilian Schell).

09. Love Theme is a forgettable disco track.

11. Travel Time begins with a repeat of the theme from 10. The Promise then turns into a ragtime tune.

12. Winning Streak belongs in an NFL highlights film.

15. A Final Decision starts quite delicately, eventually turning into the space-adventure theme.

However, it’s Jerry Goldsmith, and that’s enough for a winner.
