I revisited this after hearing the magnificent score (it cleverly mixes two melodies on top of each other – there’s probably a music term for this, but not having studied music I don’t know what it is – is it counterpoint?) to The Go-Between on BBC Radio 3 in the UK presented my Michael Sweet as part of the Sound of Cinema season this afternoon. Your links are down now Yannis but I managed to get them earlier, so thank you for reminding me what lovely music this album contains.

• On this two CD-set, Michel Legrand presents nine suites for harp and orchestra. The four on Disc 1 (recorded in 1995) are based on his own film soundtrack compositions.

• The second disc, recorded in 2008, features music from two of Legrand’s theatrical musical comedies: Donkey Skin and Mr Peek-a-Boo; plus suites based on Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess; Bernstein’s West Side Story and Kurt Weill’s Threepenny Opera.

PS: Why has your icon gone black old friend? I liked the American Gothic picture of the couple with the pitchfork.
