I thought that was awesome to listen to what various people thought was appropriate to listen to during especially the Halloween season and made a compilation of both score and songs with some dialogue edited inbetween and taged them as different chapters for a good night story.

Note: for those of you who have been following this from the beginning you are the ones who will love this the most but for new fans, you’ll want more. I have posted multiple versions of this concept over the years and after many trial and error experiments, I finally completed it. This version has been extensively remixed and remastered from the last multiple versions. Movements 2 and 3 are the showstoppers: both have been massively altered and/or extended to now sound more consistent overall compared to the predecessors. Also, this was always intended as a 3 movement symphony but just because I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to the journey this mix has been, I included a Halloween exclusive 4th movement entitled Coda that perfectly sends the album off. This album is unlike anything I’ve ever heard before or since and you won’t soon forget it. Hopefully it’ll became part of a new Halloween tradition.

This is my homage to the horror genre and to all the horror fans out there. Stay scared and have a safe Halloween.

Final note: this release is a limited edition, Halloween exclusive so all links will be deleted on November 1 so grab it while you can and feel free to share this rare treat with friends!

Note: I was going to hold off on sharing this until Halloween but once my ears heard this mix, it had to go up as soon as possible. This is my definitive take on Halloween. It has everything that makes Halloween scary and perhaps even a little more. Don’t think this is the end though. No, I will be working on Vol. 3 shortly. This project came together quicker than I expected hence its early premiere but there’s still so much to cover. Unlike my other projects, I worked diligently to correct any anomalies prior to mastering the tracks so the only new version to expect in the future is the 48k/24b upgrade. I know it gets irritating having to download each new version but I can assure you that I’m quite happy with this mix as it is now so you should enjoy it as well. At first, the project daunted me but once inspiration took over the project pretty much completed itself. It’s the fastest project I’ve ever compiled and the scariest. By movement 2, I pretty much already knew what I wanted but what I was not expecting which I got was concentrated horror at its finest. You will feel this score to your core. This is an EXCLUSIVE premiere to the two horror threads. I will not post this to the main forums until Halloween. Enjoy this little sneak preview.

Friday the 13th Pt. 3 (1982) [11 tracks, TRT: 26:56, 320 MP3]
Note: this retains as much of the ORIGINAL MUSIC recorded for this film as possible while discarding the repeat music from Pts. 1 and 2. I did leave the disco theme but saved it for the end just for shits and giggles. Admittedly, over time and through repeat listens, it grows on me.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984) [9 tracks, TRT: 31:53, 320 MP3]
Note: this one was a bit trickier as the original score was cleverly blended in with the pre-existing material. Some cues I was able to isolate while others required careful editing or just outright needed to be deleted. The finale track La Muerte de Jason was originally over 11 minutes but featured a repeat of the same extended material in two places so I removed the duplicate material and did some careful editing to make sure it was consistent. This score has the worst sound quality of the 6 in my opinion.

Friday the 13th Pt. 5: A New Beginning (1985) [23 tracks, TRT: 44:01, 320 MP3]
Note: Part 5 gets a lot of flack for being the "worst sounding" of the series but once again, that (dis)honor goes to Pt. 4. Pt. 5 has its moments but overall sounds very sharp however perhaps a bit too high-pitched. The intense brass grows rough on the nerves after awhile. No tracks were deleted or altered.

Friday the 13th Pt. 6: Jason Lives (1986) (19 tracks, TRT: 1:00:24, 320 MP3]
Note: no changes or deletions made here. Just a straight copy. Pt. 6 is obviously the best sounding of the bunch (due to the source being the original masters which could unfortunately not be located for the remaining scores of the set) with Friday the 13th Pts. 1 and 2 being a very close tie.

Note: I split some tracks up from the original Intrada album and placed them in their proper chronological order. There is no new material here.

The first 2/3 of the track "Jennifer’s Second Opinion" was unused in the film so as to where it goes in the programming, it made sense to place it right after "Doctor Heal Thy Self" as it features the music when Evan pops up behind Jennifer and injects her with the needle after strangling her doctor with a blood pressure cuff and carries her back off to his mansion. It’s what I call the first big rendition of the theme which carries us from act 2 to act 3. The score used in the doctor strangulation scene is still missing (you can tell because the score used in the scene is pure synth) so either that is an alternate or something else. The end segment is in the film, however.

The stereo sound mix on this is very expansive and features some magnificent (albeit nausea-inducing) stereo separation. Brian May seems to be have been a master of stereo mixing. R.I.P.

Many years ago, I created an extended suite from the album simply because I loved this score so much which I have since went in and re-mixed. I split it into 2 suites for your listening pleasure. They’re not your average suites but they’re not Blood Wings Sinfonia-style projects either. I tried to stay respectful to the source while still taking some liberties. I hope you enjoy!

Note: After long-last, Elliot Goldenthal’s expanded score to 1989’s cult classic, Pet Sematary, is finally here courtesy of LaLaLand Records. This Halloween season is shaping up to be something special as far as music is concerned and I can only wait patiently as Halloween draws nearer to a close to see how much more awesome it can get.

My notes for this will be relatively short. Not a lot to report this go around. To start, all of the contents from the LLLR album are included here with no excisions or sound modifications of any kind.

The material included was a treat in itself and overall, I was very impressed with the music as an expanded whole. Yeah, the official album had all the best cuts but that’s not to downplay the extra material included here. I was, however, bummed to discover that "The Return Game (Jud and Gage)" album version of the cue was not included so I incorporated that into the bonus material expanding from tracks 20-31. I did have to make some volume modifications to that cue to sound as consistent with the LLLR mixing as possible but I utilized a FLAC source so no extra transcoding other than the FLAC to MP3 save was involved.

The bonus material was not in a disagreeable order but being the OCD Nazi I am about bonus material cues being in as chronological an order as possible, I switched tracks to their appropriate chronological order to complement the extra cue.

I did notice that AFTER I uploaded the archive that it does sound awkward having the "Return Game II (Louis and Gage)" album cue be the closer to the album so I re-arranged the alternate source track for "Piped-In Death" as the closer instead. I’m sure this won’t be my final playlist order so feel free to make the necessary modifications that suit you. An updated track list is included in the track listing above.

I know I’m going to get asked about this so I’m going to address it right here and now: Like both official albums before this fan edit, I didn’t feel that the Ramones song by the same name matched the overall tone of this album so it is not included in this archive BUT I have provided a link below where you can download it in MP3 bitrates ranging from 128kbps to 320kbps so that you may make you own custom edit tailor suited to your listening preferences. Before anyone asks, I’m NOT going to upload in FLAC and should someone wish to do it themselves with their own physical copy, I would hope you would do so AFTER the 2,000 copies are sold out. I’ll say right out that it’s not an album that you will listen to day-in and day-out because in that case you’d be just as insane as me if not more insane. Like the source material, it’s not very easy listening. You won’t want to lounge with this playing on your MP3 player unless you’re like me and love a little scary mood music during a relevant horror story. The point is this is a special album in that it’s our beloved Elliot Goldenthal in his prime and he delivers this horror score with an entirely original finesse that I don’t think is utilized correctly often enough in today’s horror films. Insidious comes to mind. Insidious was a powerhouse of a score ranging from low dissonant sound design to in-your-face antique horror writing. No appearance of a title sequence has hit me quite like Insidious did. This score however doesn’t entirely let you on right off-the-bat that something is amiss. It’s melancholic in a way that slowly builds until it literally explodes into musical chaos before taking a breather and doing it all over again but bigger, better and more emotionally. I admit the cue where Gage gets the shot and cries like I imagine a real child in pain would and it’s heartbreaking. Interestingly enough, I utilized that particular cue during the emotional finale of one of my first films and despite the film being atrociously bad as far as editing went, it reminds me that although I may not realize it, this score has been with me for pretty much my whole life. It influenced my musical tastes in HIGH SCHOOL (the place where most people go to be popular, I’m the type that went to the football games and such to hear the band or see my odd (or maybe I was the odd one, that was the odd thing about our group) group of friends then bide my time until the game is over so I can leave and in my off time, cuddle up with a good book and some moody music without giving two shits in the world what anyone thinks about it) and as evidenced in one of my recent musical projects "Symphony No. 4: Murder on the Night Plains Vol. 1" movement 2, Goldenthal’s Pet Sematary sneaks in letting the audience know that shit’s about to get a whole lot worse.

As a side note, I’ve announced it quite a few times but "Symphony No. 5: Murder on the Night Plains Vol. 2" will be going viral in 6 days. Just in time for the holidays. My goal with this album is to further integrate Blood Wings Sinfonia into your Halloween traditions while expanding your musical horizons and giving you a nice mental cleanse from the shitstorm of bullshit that’s going on in our small world. Right from the get-go, I aim to evoke a magical Halloween vibe that’s unlike any project I’ve done before. I incorporate a lot more reflective moments amongst the balls-to-the-wall action pieces because I’ve learned that my favorite part of listening to music (especially now with vinyl) is that in a proper playlist order, the brief/extended moments of reflective music before the action takes over again can really bring everything together in the end if done right. Not to sound like a cocky bastard (which I won’t deny that I am) but I’ve always been one who has been extremely critical of any media projects I’ve done and with each Blood Wings Sinfonia project, I really think I’m on the right path but the lack of feedback is disheartening. It’s been an amazing development over the years and I say with full confidence that Symphony No. 5 will simply blow you away and then some. Since those projects consist of a compilation of existing sources versus my own original material, it’s best to familiarize yourself with the sounds and structures now because one day, it’ll be my music scoring that movie that scared you to thinking for a week. It’ll be that vinyl that no one can stop talking about. Perhaps right now, my expectations are a little fantastical and I’m delusional for thinking that this can possibly happen with the economy being what it is, the U.S. national decline in taste with Hans Zimmer being the top contender in listener’s interest right now and to top it all off, my lack of formal musical training with an instrument of any kind. For all I know, I could be the next Portsmouth Sinfonia BUT we have to start somewhere. I understand rhythm and how it makes me feel but as far as musically converting my own emotions into notes, I’m not one inclined to "see the music" as a quote I once heard goes. I see and hear beats with some form of repetitious musical structure and I can pick out what instrument is playing in my head but as far as turning those mental rhythms into actual music to where I can understand the emotion behind it, that’s where I struggle. I feel so many emotions and the only three (or four, if you insist on being technical) I understand are fear, sadness/melancholy and anger with little sprinkles of happiness. The emotion behind a piece of music changes with each listen. Where I once heard happiness, I now hear an overlying sense of happiness but an underlying sense of dread that towards the end makes me forget the happiness. That’s really helped me with my music projects in transmitting my personal fears into compositions that can perhaps allow you to face your own fears and see that despite the doom and gloom, not everything has to end up with a bang. I’ve matured as an artist and while I can still technically be called a "hack", that’s all likely to change. There’s still a bit of growing up left to do.

Note: Just in time for the holidays I present to you my custom expanded score of Joseph Bishara’s bizarre, chilling and terrifyingly atmospheric score for James Wan’s The Conjuring. The extra cues were recovered from the Bluray 5.1 track but simply due to how clean most of the new cues were, I supplemented them into the existing material versus creating a whole new track which to me helps pad out each of the (originally) short tracks. I liked the film, loved the score but felt more could’ve been included on the album if only an extra cue or two from the finale. Quite a lot is here but not everything. There is SFX in the track Clap Game at the beginning but it’s a short cue so it should not hinder the experience. Everything else is clean.

The additions were short pieces and appear in the tracks Annabelle (track 1), Clap Game (track 4), Maurice (track 5), Witch Perch (track 6), Black Bile (track 9), Wall Searching (track 13, very very short addition) and Hanging Drop (track 14). The rest was included on LLLR’s edition of the album.

The additions may be miniscule (a mere 3 minutes more than the LLLR album) but I personally think they help make the experience more enjoyable. The included selections from LLLR were definitely nice but just a little more like what I’ve included here would’ve been great.

I did not include the end credits music as it was simply the tracks "The Soaring Entities" and "The Conjuring" mixed together and it felt redundant to include them hence their exclusion.

Halloween is the third public album by the group Two Steps from Hell, and was released in September 2012. The album contains 48 tracks, written by composers Thomas J. Bergersen and Nick Phoenix. All the tracks, apart from To Die on Halloween, are from their previous promotional releases. This public album is the first to have songs with English vocals, including "To Die on Halloween", "This Is Oh My Dear" (a vocal version of "Monkey Business" from the album The Devil Wears Nada), and "Deck the Halls with Blood (from the album Ashes)".

This is one of those Halloween type records that have a bunch of different sound effects but designed in a way to create a ‘soundscape’ where you can almost imagine a ‘scene’ playing out (as opposed to just a collection of creepy sound effects for foley work). I actually had this LP as a kid and it was a favorite of mine but alas it went missing at some point so I was overjoyed to find a pretty decent HQ digital copy (or rip) of it online. Please note that there were actually two different releases of this album and one supposedly had a narrator who said a few words before each selection played but I’ve never heard that version myself and to be clear the version here is the one WITHOUT the narration (and from what I heard this was the more common widely released version that most probably had as a kid).

Please note that the source was a 192Kbps VBR AAC-LC audio file that needed to be edited etc. so I had to convert it to a WAV audio file. Afterwards, to avoid "double compression", I decided to save the end result in the FLAC format but it’s not a true FLAC version due to the source. As a result I would suggest grabbing the MP3 version unless you are planning to burn to a CD or are super anal about audio quality. More info below if you want a full technical explanation.
Technical Details:
I had a lot of trouble trying to find a digital copy of this Vinyl release. Every blog I found that had once posted it had dead links. Then I found someone on You Tube who posts Vinyl rips and he did one and the sound quality was actually really good! So I used the website KEEPVID to download the two videos (Side 1 was one video and Side 2 was another video). KEEPVID allowed me to download as 720p MP4 files and according to MediaInfo the audio was 192Kbps VBR AAC-LC format. I extracted the audio and imported into Adobe Audition CC V. 6.0 and worked on the two files as separate files (it dawned on me after I could have joined the two … Side 1 and Side 2 … and make one huge audio file but I didn’t do that). Side 1 was in pretty good shape and I left it alone other than editing out the tracks and normalizing to -1.0db but Side 2 had some very loud pops/clicks so I did use the manual method to remove the worse of them (having said that both sides still had some pops/clicks). Side 2 was also edited for tracks and normalized to -1.0db and all tracks were saved out as 16-Bit 44.1KHz WAV audio files (please note the source, while AAC-LC, was also 16-Bit 44.1KHz). After this I converted to FLAC and did all the tagging of the files and then converted the FLAC to 320 CBR MP3 and I offer both here. The reasoning behind the FLAC is that the music was already compressed with lossy compression (the AAC-LC source) and so I wanted to avoid "double compression" and used FLAC but it’s obviously not true lossless FLAC so I decided to make a HQ MP3 version (by HQ I mean maxing it out at 320 CBR) and although this means it is now "double compressed" I think any loss in sound quality is so marginal that it most likely cannot be heard. I think most will be perfectly happy with the MP3 version although I do suggest the FLAC version if you plan to burn to a CD and/or want the best quality possible, but again, I kind of doubt anyone can hear the difference.

All you have to do is get one of my 50+ compilations from Spock?s Record Round-Up (http://spocksrecordround-up.blogspot.com/). — to see how I do it. That’s why I have only mentioned a few here. It all goes to my own music-sharing blog!

And since I STILL (Grrrr……) am having problems posting images, You will have to go there to see.

Track lists are very simple — at least for me, since I use Poikosoft’s EZ-CDA extractor, which has the capability to copy all disc info — Track titles, Track artists, track times — to the clipboard as text, whence to paste.

PS when people like what you do and ask you to do it better, that is a COMPLIMENT! Be thankful that you have the creativity to assemble and share. The "cover art" for these is great and much better than anything I could do!

Yeah I’d love to get volumes 1-4 of Trick or Treat. I did a google search but couldn’t find any info about 1-4, let alone any place to download them.

They are from the site aquariumdrunkard.com. I put in a request on their Facebook page for them to repost them a few months ago and they said October. Still waiting!

This year’s anthology of music for the Hallowe’en season features those lovable misfits … MONSTERS! Our cover art features a line-up of many favorites. The majority of the critters’ images came from various online coloring-book pages.
However, the Leader of this Pack holds a special place in my heart and memory. Yeah, that pile of garbage in the bottom right corner. That isn’t just ANY pile of garbage, It’s The Heap!
The Heap was featured in Mad #5, back when it was a full-color comic book. The story, “Outer Sanctum!”, was written by Harvey Kurtzman, with art by the ever-lovin’ Bill Elder. It’s as much a parody of EC horror comics as it is of the anthology radio show “The Inner Sanctum.” Look up the entire story of “The Heap!” from its various (probably illegal) postings online.
My encounter with Heap came about because my big brother had a copy of the 1959 Signet paperback The Bedside Mad. “Outer Sanctum!” is the first story therein. So thanks again to my big brother Robert for this part of my joyfully corrupted childhood.
As an added bonus feature, the “I smell something stinky”-faced moon — in the sky in the CD cover art — is ALSO from this classic Mad tale of science gone wrong.
