Novelyn Price was 76 years old when she wrote the memoir about her ‘friendship’ with Robert E. Howard. This film is dedicated to her. In her youth she wanted to be a writer, but Bob Howard was not very encouraging. Eventually she became a teacher and influenced thousands of students. One of whom wrote the screenplay for this lovely, albeit slow, gem of a film.

The studio wanted ‘Conan’ inserts- which would have ruined a story about a relationship between two young people. Instead when Conan is discussed, HGW turns up the background music into heroic battle, male chorus, and clashing swords. Much better.
