Hymn: ‘Before Your Eyes’ Lyrics- Elzbieta Bieluszko

Agnieska Holland assigned Kaczmarek to yet another of her film projects that doesn’t quite launch for the general public. Ed Harris stars as the ‘Miracle Killer’, a priest whose thankless job is to disprove that saints walk amongst us… unless they have tallied up THREE miracles. Anne Heche gives an absolutely stunning performance as the daughter of a ‘possible saint’ who could care less.

Kaczmarek conjures up a soundtrack of deep melancholy and sublime faith. Along with his favorite pianist Leszek Mozdzer working his typical improvisational magic, there are a host of other soloists that stand out from the orchestra and chorus.

Track 1/ Interrupted Dream has the distinction of zimbalon, string quartet, voices, percussion, clapping hands (or wood) and a wind instrument that could possibly be a very deranged recorder.

Track 8/Domine Jesu is a brief choral piece delicately ‘jazzed up’ by double bass.

As always, Kaczmarek creates poignancy within darkness with occasional streaks of light through the dappled canopy of his fascinating orchestration.
