It’s a "club" of sorts for Canadian gamers. I think it’s organized by Future Shop, Electric Playground, and some folks over at redflagdeals. It has also been making "mysterious" appearances at the Canadian VGAs the past couple years – Tsilon Invades the Canadian Video Game Awards Show 2012 – YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrBzrIaBKCw)
I can’t think of anything similar to compare it to, but it’s legit.
The way this works is you raise your level on the site by answering gaming trivia, "daily" questions about gaming news, doing challenges/achievements in games, and attending live events (so far, only Toronto and Vancouver events have taken place). After you reach level 10 (it’s not difficult), you are granted access to the G-List, where you unlock benefits and perks. These benefits vary, though they’re usually a significant discount on game related items (ex. $100 off a Vita, $99 Sony 3D TV), or even freebies (ex. free $60 or lower game). The higher your level, the bigger the perks you can access.
Joining the site requires some riddles and puzzles. When you enter the link posted above, you have to find 4 "cryptocodes", which can be found by scavenging the hints behind each colour panel. The codes change every so often, so it’s difficult to cheat by searching on other forums.
However, they opened invites to the G-List last week, so I can get you past the riddles and you’ll get to see the site, but you still have to reach level 10 (which isn’t difficult at all) to take advantage of the "perks".
Another thing, it’s all online. If you try to do in-store pickups when taking advantage of perks, you could get banned, because people were abusing the system last time during a promotion and getting extra gift cards from the store.
