iTunes AAC files they sell are NOT lossless.

You can rip your own CDs using iTunes and set it to Apple Lossless but that’s not what the iTunes store sells.

Time to check this out. Will stick on the iPod and listen as I ride my bike and get back to you with an opinion. Thanks! 😀

I do think it is not at all an appropriate use in a spiderman film, and I am definitely going to hate on the film, because what they’re turned it into is a despicable horror mix of a punk spiderman and explosions that would even make michael bay’s mouth water. chill its just a typo. I don’t ‘LOVE’ the score, but I don’t hate it. And no I never want to see that god awful film, just the trailer makes me sick.

it’s a good score, sounded weird at times with all those chinese sounding chants (at one particular track/ care not to remember the title) it’s not like it’s a martial arts movie. some cues echoes suspense horror much like an ambiance you’ll get from a horror film (i suspect it’s scenes with the CGI looking Lizard) and all together it’s like a pizza of different scores into one slice and it’s the flavor that it’s not my cup of tea not one i was expecting from a Spider-man movie (pun intended to the reboot). i don’t hate the score, i love the composer’s works but this one not really.
i haven’t watch yet this film, got no plans at all. maybe when it does came out in cable, lol.

This score is a mix of Horner work of the last 15 years. And therefore not particularly exciting.
There is a lack of ideas, many cues are generic, unfortunately.
It is just a commissioned work, and it also sounds so. Annoying …

This is absolutely no question of love or hatred, that’s an observation.
Better than many other scores, but not the best Horner.

This is not Tyler Bates. I expect more from a James Horner.

I’m not crazy about this score, I’ve tried it many times but it doesn’t stick like Prometheus’ and the samples to Dark Knight Rises do. I love Horner, especially his 90’s work, but I just feel nothing when I hear this music. Kudos for the post though, although I didn’t use it, I’m sure it’ll give others to get a better taste for themselves.

Ooook then. You wanted a score to sound more like Elfman’s, preserving the feel of the first 2 films? And this new direction is too different? I could say the same for Batman. Batman Begins and Dark Knight sound NOTHING like Elfman’s Batman. Which in turn sounds nothing like the 60’s show which….I don’t see how you can feel a piece is inappropriate because it sounds different than what has gone before. Now mind, I am not speaking to whether it is good or bad. I admit I have not listened to it yet, not really. But just because it is different than what you envisioned does not mean it doesn’t work in the film.

As for the film, I just don’t get the hate. I am stoked to see it. All it is is basically an interpretation of ultimate Spiderman. They take Pete back to school. Give him an attitude. It’s good. Non-organic web-shooters. (gasp, he’s a SCIENTIST-yay!). He’s got clothes in a backpack (he needs to change sometime). Actually the backpack thing is classic from waaaayyyy back. He’d have to stash it somewhere, all webbed up, but since the web compound breaks down after a while, if he took too long to get back, clothes on the ground, or gone even. The non-organic web-shooters (FINALLY!!) are gonna be good too. The poses, the smart mouth, cocky kid-like behavior all fits well within the norm of the Spidey-verse. Based on what I see in the trailers, I like it. ‘Course, without seeing the film can’t say. But spidey ought to full of big action and stunts. of course it should. And the Lizard? A villain who ain’t the Goblin..wheeeeee

I have the feel of this being a lot like Disney XD’s Ultimate Spidey. I admit it took getting used to, but I am digging it now.

I want to see a new story, not the same with other actors. Peter Parker back to school? Super, I know it already.
The story revolves in a circle and that is a problem. The studios do not take any more risks, and thus stifle any innovation.

The score has the same problem. Of course I do not want to hear a Elfman "update", I want new musical approaches.

I could not say, I have not heard it yet. But as for the story, the comics themselves basically tell the same story over and over too. I really have no interest in a 30 year old Parker’s day to day. High school is where Spidey firmly belongs. And, for an upcoming generation, this will be "their" spidey. I do wish we didn’t have to do the origin story all the time. Same with Superman. We KNOW the deal, get on with it. But each film seems the need to show the origin. meh.

It’s very unlikely the new Superman movie will have anything to do with a – very hypothetical – Justice League Movie.

And the same goes with Spiderman, maybe Sony and Marvel will get along with each other on a future crossover between the two franchises but the road is long yet.

I think the Batman movies are a good example. More or less they tell the same story, but the approach is completely different.
Tim Burton’s Batman is a wild roller coaster ride, quirky, morbid, dark, emotionally ambiguous with a lone hero, a dark knight.
Christopher Nolan’s Batman is stylish, a team player, plagued by self-doubt, more of the martyrs.

The same goes for the music. Danny Elfman’s theme reflects the indifference of the main character perfectly.
James Newton Howard tried the same with Batman Begins, but unfortunately Hans Zimmer was in the way.

I do not want to see the 80 year old, arthritis-ridden Peter Parker climbing the walls to his retirement home.
The Amazing Spider-Man is not a bad movie, the music is better than expected. Just not very exciting.

That was also the major problem of the Superman reboot. He was simply unnecessary.
Nobody needs the same movie twice.

You know, I don’t of Superman Returns as a reboot as such. I think it was clearly intended to be an extension of the original 2 films. And, I don’t think it was a horrid movie. (I do have some issues. I think Clark needs to spend a few hours in the cave with Bats, lean some combat skills that don’t involve being very strong and invulnerable, but hey). The real problem, ironically, is that it actually tried to tell an actual real story with real emotions and stuff. That’s fine. But just like with the Hulk, what people want is to se him just throw down with some Big Bad at some point. It needs to be a rousing ending. He needed to punch Luthor the hell out in the end. Or at least take him back to prison. It doesn’t seem to have any real resolution.

As for Justice League..dunno. DC has not done as well with their live action as the marvel films have. Before JLA, they need to do a really kick ass Wonder Woman. Not watered down. Strong, fast, tough, and can fly. And fights well. The DCU has been much better served by their animated movies, in my opinion. Marvel’s animated stuff just is meh for me. But BTAS, STAS, JL, JLU, Teen Titans, and Young Justice all showcase the DCU in a fairly consistent and well done way.

As for origin stories, I dislike them, because for the most part I don’t think we need them. Like take the first X-Men film. Yea, a bit of back story, enough to get the gist of it. But X-2? No holding back. They hit the ground running and really evolved the story. (sorry bout the pun). We all know Spidey, Bats and Supes. And we all think we know the Hulk, but as of yet, we have not really seen an accurate version of the origin, not even close. (much like no one wants to remember Venom’s origins either). Thor is a good example. We got that he was a God. We saw him in his element, then took that away. Good story, with a lot of Thor smash at the end, for satisfaction. But, not really an origin story per se. On the other hand, Iron Man was, and it turned out really well. But, he was less well known with the general public too. But, they do not open every Iron man movie with an origin flashback. No need, got it the first time. How many damn times have we seen Bruce in the alley with the broken pearls? Or Peter with poor old Uncle Ben. Or Krypton explode, for Christ’s sakes. GOD, everyone has to get their pwas on the Krypton bit. Who the HELL needs to be told that story again? Each time, updated to modern times, to make it "relevant"…

Went to see the movie today. I was good but as Amanda said, it most deffinetly was not needed. What took Raimi half an hour to show the peter becoming spiderman took more or less the whole of the new one, and. It was everything we have seen before.

As for the score, well Horner truly does know how to bring a scene to life with his works. It really does work as a character for the movie and has a theme that many superhero movies do not have anymore. From emotions to excitement he really did do justice for me. The album works good as a standalone piece but it works even better on screen. However the albums tracks are out of order. I cannot say what order they should be in from one watch.

To expand on some of the excellent points Amanda made. ‘Superman Returns’ wasn’t a bad movie at all but it lacked a strong villain. A hero and villain have to be at least evenly matched in strength, smarts or both because if the hero’s victory is perceived as easy then our hero doesn’t look very heroic. Director Bryan Singer stated that movies like the first ‘Superman’ and ‘Jaws’ were the reasons he wanted to get into the movies. But he made the mistake of being too faithful to the original movie by keeping Luthor a real estate con artist. That worked in 1979 but not in the 21st century. Singer should have borrowed from the Superman animated series and made Luthor a corporate billionaire with the power to crush people with a single phone call. That would have helped make the playing field a bit more even.

As for rebooting a film franchise I’m for it if it is an improvement over the original. Burton got a number of things right with his Batman movies but he, in my opinion, never cracked it the way Nolan has. This is probably because Burton, while a talented film maker, last few movies not withstanding, is weak when it comes to crafting a strong narrative. He’s at his best when he can set his films in a fairy tale like world where he can sidestep the rules of logic. Nolan does craft movies with a well thought out plot and more importantly all his movies revolve around some form of aberrant psychology and/or neurology – (‘Memento’ – inability to form new short term memories, ‘Insomnia’- well that one’s obvious, ‘The Prestige’ – identical twins pretending to be the same person. ‘Inception’ -reality vs dreams) and this makes him the perfect film maker to tackle ‘Batman’ because it is a comic where the main characters, heroes and villains are defined by some sort of extreme psychology.

Raimi, like Burton, didn’t quite get ‘Spider-Man’ right either. There was a lot more good than not good until ‘Spider-Man 3’ which was a mess. I am looking forward to seeing ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and finding out if it is an improvement or more of the same.

I for one loved the movie. It is full of emotion, which made Horner the perfect composer for the score. I love how Horner has evolved his sound to be more contemporary without losing that traditional brass section that we all love. I found myself crying in a couple of places in the film, so the emotional aspect of the film is plentiful.

People who liked Raimi’s more ‘gothic’ approach may find this film a little different, but for me it was refreshing in that even my wife was totally blown away by it. The on-screen chemistry was spot on for me, and Peter’s pain was well portrayed and believable.
