There is no "long one" and "short one". I have absolutely no idea what this "long one" is. According to Wikipedia, there is no officially released Soundtrack. Take a look at this article > Cast Away – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cast_Away#Soundtrack) < (it’s Wikipedia, so take that information very carefully)

Now, this "short version" is the FYC Academy Promo. But you’re missing the end credits. They run 7:13, not 7:29 as the wiki article says (exactly what I mean about taking all that info carefully) I’m sure it’s the FYC, as I have it.

Just edit your original post with the information I’ve given you. I don’t know what the hell to officially title the "long one", but the "short one" you can title "Almost FYC Academy Promo" since it’s almost the FYC lol

I’m so glad to finally have the full soundtrack for Cast Away! As a token of my thanks, let me provide some quick background info on these:

The 15-track CD was a promotional CD briefly included with the Serendipity soundtrack from Memphis Music. The other one is a promotional CD released for the Academy Awards entitled Cast Away: Promotional Score for Academy Award Consideration. The second one should have 7 tracks total.

DaUpp: Your FYC Academy Promo is missing the 7th track "End Credits." They run 7:13

As far as I can tell, the original FYC Promo only had 6 tracks, just as DaUpp originally posted. This is authenticated by numerous online descriptions from people who say they have the official FYC Promo and that it has 6 tracks. The 7-track version is a bootleg where the "End Credits" was simply lifted from the Varese release “Music of Alan Silvestri featuring Cast Away” and added to the original 6-track FYC Promo to create a more substantial version. That “End Credits” was not on the real 6-track FYC Promo is indicated by 2 things: 1) It’s listed as a "bonus track" on the 7-track version and (2) it does not match the other 6 tracks in terms of technical specs (i.e., not being true lossless while the original 6 tracks are). The 7-track "FYC Promo" sports artwork that looks official, but it is not.

Funny. I just picked up the blu-ray for this film at Best Buy this morning for $3.75.
