I’ve been watching the anime so I know what type of score this is and it doesn’t do it for me. This is Iwasaki in synth/beats action mode with a middle eastern sound. Thanks for posting though.

After a trio of fairly mediocre (by his standards) scores for C, Ben-To, and Heaven’s Memo Pad, it seems Iwasaki-san’s woken up a little for this score. Throughout the listen, I kept thinking "this is what if Iwasaki scored Black Hawk Down". While there aren’t any clear nods to Zimmer’s BHD score, the inspiration is similar and while Iwasaki doesn’t go into full-blown imitation there’s moments where Zimmer’s influence is clear. Also kinda interesting to see the "H.W. Complex" tracks made a return as well (there were two of those on the C soundtrack), so it’s like Iwasaki is trying to build an action suite or something while composing for anime. I’m looking forward to see how Iwasaki continues building his action suite.

It’s not Iwasaki’s best but this OST does confirm for me that he is not falling into a second Dark Age. Ironically, some of the acoustic guitar tracks are reminiscent of his somewhat-panned score for the Black Cat anime that came out in the middle of Iwasaki’s Dark Age. But there’s still a drive here that propels this score beyond Iwasaki’s Dark Age work . . . if not elevate it to the top of his very best.

Keep in mind that the anime has a second season that will air in the fall and presumably Iwasaki will have new tracks for that season, so we may be seeing the beginning of something potentially bigger from Iwasaki-san.
