While Castlevania III had some official OST releases, not only any of them sounded like in the original NES title, the musics were also all mashed up together. So I decided to make my own rip of the game.

You must’ve gotten the official version from Konami’s Akumajo Dracula Best Perfect Selection album, which they recently reused as part of the Akumajo Dracula Best Music Collections Box set. I’m also mad at them for doing this, which is why I took it upon myself to find other rips; now, the reason the official release doesn’t sound anything like the NES release is that Konami used the soundtrack to the Japanese version of CV3, called Akumajo Densetsu or Devil’s Castle Legend and made for a Japanese Nintendo console by the name of Family Computer or Famicom, similar to our NES. When Konami of America made the NES version, they used a wholly different sound device or whatever gizmo’s needed to generate music in eight bit games; I honestly don’t know why. Personally, I prefer the Jap. version, but that’s a matter of taste: just thought I’d clear that up.

To clarify, actually the Akumajo Densetsu cartridge had the audiochip which added 2 more passes and something else if memory serves me correct, that made the music sound better.
Said chip was cut out of the english version (Dracula’s Curse) to cut on production costs.

To clarify a clarification, the American/European NES systems lacked the hardware to take advantage of the extra channels provided by VRC6 chip, which is why the sound was reprogrammed.
