Due to an error I do not understand, the recordings on Youtube and a rip on Project2612 contains bad static in the music and has lead people to believe the Sega Genesis version’s music is horrible. Although I prefer the Super Nintendo’s music, I still think the Sega Genesis’s music is decent and deserved a proper release without the common static error and no sound effects. Enjoy.

Although 90% of the time I prefer the music in the Sega versions of any given multiplatform title,I agree that in case of SA and Maximum Carnage, the Genesis really got the short end of the stick, while whoever sampled together the SNES version just went all out.

Thank you for standing up for the Genesis sound chip, bro. 🙂

Well, it is not the sound chip, like many people say it is. It is mostly due to the sound driver that LJN/Software Creations chose for the music in the Sega Genesis conversions of their games, and that sound driver that they use is the Sound Images sound driver.

I do admit though, that the Sound Images sound driver doesn’t sound too good, but I like it, since it has that kind of gritty-whiny sound that Synth Chips are supposed to have. Here is a list of Genesis games that use the Sound Images sound driver:

Spiderman and X-Men- Arcade’s Revenge
Separation Anxiety
Maximum Carnage
Rock and Roll Racing
Double Dragon
Double Dragon 3- The Rosetta Stone
Family Feud
Foreman for Real
Cutthroat Island
Blaster Master 2
Beauty and the Beast: Belle’s Quest
Beauty and the Beast Roar of the Beast
Barbie Vacation Adventure (only released as a beta)
Lotus II: RECS
Nigel Manesell’s World Championship
Pete Sampras Tennis
Shadow of the Beast
Shadow of the Beast 2
Fatal Rewind
Super Off Road
The Tick
Tinhead
Top Gear 2
S.S. Lucifer- Man Overboard

Those are ALL of the Sega Genesis/Megadrive games that use the Sound Images sound driver.
