[MF] Hell Target OVA RAW [VHS / 720x480p / AVI]

A spaceship is lost near the forbidding planet of Inferno II. Some years later, a second ship with a crew of nine gets there and encounters a monster that rapidly makes mincemeat of most of them. 1986.

I re-ripped Hell Target from my VHS copy with higher contrast so that you can actually see what’s going on… this OVA is very dark (both literally and figuratively).

My ripping software does not allow for deinterlaced recording, so after recording I deinterlaced it, smoothed it, and compressed it from a couple GB to around 400 MB. The quality here is as high as I can make it with what I have, unless someone wants to mess with the 1.86 GB interlaced MPEG original.

The contrast looks okay in all but one scene (the pointless sex scene, of course). That scene is washed out. It lasts only around a minute though and is irrelevant to the actual story.

The OVA is 50 minutes long including credits. I have it split into two parts. Feel free to redistribute, fansub, edit, use in AMVs, etc. 🙂 Enjoy!

… speaking of credits, I noticed this in the credits for the first time. It’s on all the tapes, I checked someone else’s rip to be sure. It only lasts about a split second:

I honestly caught that the first time I watched it. Scared the crap out of me.

Also, I believe the OVA is supposed to be dark. I think the creators made it that way. I actually like it better that way. In my opinion, I think it just depends on the quality of the VHS tape. If it’s kind of worn it makes it harder to see. Hopefully one day someone will rip the VHD version for better clarity.

Currently working on Google-translating some Russian subs. I already had a subtitle file for this, but the translation was so off and vague that this new subtitle file will probably be at least a little better; even though it’s a Japanese-to-Russian-to-English translation. Google translate is better than I expected at translating Russian. XD I’ll edit the timing as well to match my rip here and post it when I’m done. :3

Also, if anyone wants to buy the VHD videodisc on Y!Auctions to rip it, that would be great; but remember that VHD discs are NOT the same as LD’s and can only be played on VHD players. VHD (video high density) is an obsolete format used almost exclusively in Japan, so finding a player to buy or someone who owns one and is willing to rip a VHD disc could be a challenge. Just a heads-up.

Dammit, I wish this title was readily available on LD! >.<

EDIT: Forgot to mention this, but the VHD disc may in fact be a 3D version. I can’t be sure because I can’t read Japanese… but VHD was at the time the best format for 3D movies. I know of another anime title, Scoopers, that was released on 3D VHD. I don’t know if Hell Target got the same treatment.

My internet connection is very slow. If it was not that I would download this and make the subs for you.

I just downlad Shakugan no shana III all 24 episodes, and I already passed the limit of donwlaods. Stupid Country’s Burocracy >.<

Because of thisnew 4g burocracy my internet connection starts to be hyper slow. Because of this shit a lot of teh stuff and uploads I could have done last month take days or weeks to be uploaded

Sorry to hear that. 🙁 It would be great if you could make subs sometime though. 🙂 I don’t need a copy of the video with subs, I just need the subtitle file by itself. Is it possible to make subs by watching the Youtube version I put up?

it is not very reliable tough. Youtube spends a whole day to load the full videos. And bythe time it i doing that I am already or spleeping or doing somethign else, when it suddenly it gives error. Alto of my projects I have been working on in whihc relay of my internet connection are all being delayed because of this. :/

This was never made available on DVD or, to my knowledge, laserdisc. It was released on VHD, which is a rare format available only in Japan and is very hard to find a way to rip (there are no ripping services for it). So the VHS tape is likely your only option for ripping.
