I have been looking for this for some time. 🙂
If not, I will continue to look for a solution.
Thank you again,
JonC
It is primarily the 27 disc version. Beginning with track 22 the tracks are out of sequence. Two dialogue tracks, (Don’t Be Mean," and track 24 "Wherever You Go," have been combined into a single track, leaving 26 total. The 27th track is the Neil Norman cover from Greatest SciFi’s Hits Vol. IV.
Seems to sound cleaner with less of the level issues than the Gold Edition version I’ve been listening to for the last few years.
Thanks (again,)
JonC
Also it was not the bootleg I thought it was. Thanks for the analysis Jon that helped me figure out the discrepancies in the track list I found.
FYI the following bootlegs exist:
Is there a bootleg of the Buckaroo Banzai CD soundtrack? (http://www.figmentfly.com/bb/music2.html)

As I don’t know the history of this boot that well – has anyone taken the best bits and mashed them all together? Thinking that if that hasn’t been done yet, I should do it along with new audio rips of dialogue from the DVD (sounds like a old VHS copy was used or something?)
I know the ownership of BB as a film has been in legal limbo for years and years but it would be nice if the score was released one day…

If you want info on the other versions out there read this article: Is there a bootleg of the Buckaroo Banzai CD soundtrack? (http://www.figmentfly.com/bb/music2.html)
Also, since I found out that Billy Vera and the Beaters played the onstage rocknroll song "Rocket88" for the film, I checked all the listings for any of their albums that may have a longer version of that song, and found NONE! I also found an "out-take" on "Last.fm" but it was just over a minute running time, way too short to be anything other than just grabbed from the film. Plus it didn’t seem to even be on that site. SO…. to make a long story even longer, I found a version of "Rocket88" with a band whose sound sort of matches what was heard in the film, except that the lead is the mouth harp (Harmonica) but the feel is still the same, so I edited the vocals out of the tracks, and edited it into the BB version, making a 6 minute plus version of the song. See what you guys think:
