But have any of you gotten Squall’s best weapon, the lionheart, in disc 1?
It definitely made much of the game a bit too easy for me.
Considering you really don’t need to use the Lionheart limit break outside of Ultima and Omega (then again, not really for Ultima), there really isn’t any real reason to get it that early on if you ask me. And that’s not even when you exploit the junction system.
It’s a pain in the butt because you have to grind for a while and play more card games than most magic: the gathering players play in a year…
Plus, it just makes the gameplay EVEN MORE of a joke. It’s by no means necessary unless you can’t figure out the junction system. If you want to completely dominate the battles, you’re not going to have any fun because it won’t be any sort of challenge. And if that’s the case, you’re better off getting the AP needed for Enc-None so you don’t waste your time.

I agree with the fun and challenge being ruined and I personally wouldn’t do this (I enjoy progressively upgrading the gunblade throughout the game). In a different approach though, I guess it is considered a "challenge" to get the Lion Heart on disk 1 just like it is a challenge to get all the cards in the game, so you can actually say you did it. And I guess some people would like a nice shiney blue gunblade with wings on it.
You can get them back from the Card Queen in Disc Four near the crashed Escape Pod.
Hence if you too afraid to refine a card just because it is rare, its only holding you back in the long run. And the minotaur card isn’t even that great compared to the other cards. Plus as Darth Raven points out you can always win them back from the card queen in disc 4 as long as you have completed the card quest. I refined minotaur and gilgamesh as soon as I got them as the items they give are worth more to me than the cards themselves.
