Turangalla-Symphonie – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turangal%C3%AEla-Symphonie)

This "modern" work had even 21 versions in recording history. I had an old EMI version by Previn. It’s on two CDs, but I burnt them onto one disc without problem.

Thanks for sharing a newer recording.

I’ve heard good things about that Previn recording, though I’ve never heard it myself. The Chung recording was my introduction, but I think it muddles the soloists a bit. I’ve also heard the Wit recording, which, despite being well-praised in many circles, I thought seemed dull and lifeless compared to this Nagano rendering.

Interestingly, the premiere was conducted by Leonard Bernstein, but he never recorded it because he hated it. What a shame.

All my classical exploring days I have been curious about this. It always sat in a record bin with that odd title. The ondes martenot staring at me (used so well in Honnegar’s Jean ‘darc au Bucher).

NOW I will finally be able to hear the thing! Thank you!

Thanks for the post!
This seems to be a work in which "oriental" conductors (I know Nagano is an American) specialise:
Ozawa, Chung and Nagano…
