Wow, this is beautiful. The higher bitrate allows me to hear things that I couldn’t hear before with the upconverted 128kbps mp3 version.
I think that the sound mixing is far better on this release than it was on the soundtrack release- although I love both versions equally. The sound mixing is notable on "In Motion/Let the Hacking Begin".
works for me. Thanks KaFaraqGatri!!
You never got a hold of the 320kbps version Konio posted back in July? This one?
Unless that is it, I’m not very educated with the whole upconverted bitrate thing

Those files are the ones grabbed from the Sony site, only upconverted to 320kbps from the original 128kbps files. The difference in quality increase is noticeably better on this post’ (even when I converted KaFaraqGatri’s lossless files into 320kbps myself).
So I suppose I should do the same and convert this to 320 then?
Well transcoding (as its known) 128k to 320k will not increase quality AT ALL. On the contrary, it will decrease it. So a FLAC to 320k is clearly the winner 🙂
And Dak, VBR-0 is better than 320k 😉

Can you explain why VBR is better?
Also, depending on the codec used (LAME being the best), VBR can give better frequency response than 320 CBR encoding. I have seen some 320k files with a cut off around 16khz but all my VBR-0 CD rips go right up to 20khz in some cases.
Thats a basic summary, anyway – someone correct me if I am wrong!
Not if you don’t want to.
What I meant by the 320kbps conversion comment is that I converted KaFaraqGatri’s FLAC to 320kbps MP3 ONLY to see if there was a notable difference in quality between those (new MP3) files and the files posted previously (in July), which claimed to be 320kbps- and there was. That means that the July post files were upconverted into 320, but weren’t genuinely 320.
What I did with KaFaraqGatri’s FLAC files is that I converted them into Apple Lossless so that I can play them on my iTunes/iPod without loss of quality.

I am well aware of that 🙂 I ended up converting the FLAC files into ALAC (Apple Lossless) anyway, which I rarely do for albums because of the space size- but Trent & Atticus are an exception!
Hey, do you think that 256kbps MP3 VBR is better quality than 320kbps CBR MP3 or 256kbps AAC?
I’ve been debating whether I should convert my files to either 256VBR MP3 or 256CBR AAC…
I think 320kbps CBR MP3 is better than 256 VBR MP3, because the maximum bits a 256k VBR encode will give you is 256kb for one frame. VBR-0 extreme is the best option 🙂 It will give 320kb to the more complex signals.
Yes, but you may need to create a ‘custom’ option for it, "Parameters":
-S –noreplaygain -V 0 – %d
They’re not on this promo score for that reason.
Would be great!
Thank you, roflrick!!
No problemo!

Thank you.
Indeed!
Coming up as being upsampled in my lossless audio checker
My word, we’ve been bamboozled, haven’t we?
Many thanks roflrick for the re-upload of The Social Network (FYC) score 😉
