THE FLINTSTONES 1 & 2 (unreleased scores by David Newman) (lossless) (FLAC)

TV’s 60s cartoon show finally made it to the big screen in 1994 with a live-action version featuring an A-list cast of John Goodman, Rick Moranis, and Rosie O’Donnell. The sequel that followed in 2000 had a less than steller cast, a Las Vegas setting, and dismal reviews (ex: "as foul as a dinosaur turd").

Both films included the usual assortment of pop vocals, which were released on MCA (The Flintstones) and on Hip-0 Records (Flintstones 2). The instrumental scores, both by David Newman, have not been released commercially. The music for both films is as lively as you’d expect and has one of Newman’s catchiest main themes.

The music to The Flintstones 1 was also released on DNCD 004LR. I listened to it and found the music to be exactly the same as on this version. I do not know which came first.

Audio Quality: Flintstones 1=good stereo sound. Flintstones 2=very good stereo sound. No dialog or sfx in either.
Tau Analyzer and EAC found both discs to be lossless.
Ripped to FLAC using XLD.

As far as i know, there are 2 different releases for the Flintstones 1 score. This one, and another (i thought) about 40 tracks. A version without sfx etc.
I have it somewhere, I shall upload it if I find it.

As long as fans continue to make their own covers and add/delete tracks when they burn their discs, there will be many versions floating around that could basically be the same thing. I didn’t know until now that the David Newman site mentioned above was put together by our own Justin Boggin! Looking at track times for the different versions of "The Flintstones 1" listed on his site…

1)…it would seem that the 24-track Version 3 is the same as what I posted here, except that track 12 was separated into tracks 12 & 13 to make the whole disc 1 track longer.
2)…it would seem that the 22-track Version 2 has done the same thing also, in addition to being short 2 other tracks.

The 47-track "complete new 2010 edition" would seem to have additional music, although it could be a poor DVD-rip, etc. Maybe if (MAT)themes locates it we can all find out!

They really need to release this one on original CD (and other Newman scores like Scooby Doo).
The first one is one of the best scores ever made.

As far as I can tell, the 23-track Flintstones 1 is a bootleg and the 42-track Flintstones 2 is the official FYC Promo. I’m not sure what you mean by your 47-track version being "the real deal", but please share it with us! And thank you!

Thank you for sharing this! Here’s my modest assessment. It appears to be the same 47-track version that Codyap09 shared back in message #13. All 23 tracks on the version I shared are included, but there’s an additional 20 minutes of music on the 47-track version. I also think the 47-track version has slightly better sound than the 23-track version I shared. On the other hand, while each of the tracks on the 23-track version is self-contained, many of the tracks on the 47-track version run into each other, so listening to these tracks individually creates some very awkward starts and endings. I guess everyone will need to have both!
