Thanks. Haven’t heard this one before.

I’m curious why you spell out Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on all your uploads both in the tags and in the folder name. It seems unnecessarily long when if you tag it in the right genre (Soundtrack), it is assumed the album is a soundtrack and so the name of the film alone will usually suffice.

I like uniformity and it doesn’t cause a problem on any of my playback devices, but mostly I do it just to aggravate you..lol

Just kidding.

In addition:

All of my music is accessible throughout my house on various displays, TV in living room, den, bedroom, garage all streaming through my media player (Play On). In addition to artwork it displays all of the album information, including what you were just questioning as excessive.

True if i tagged my music with soundtrack it would classify it on my PC as a soundtrack but I like a little more detail. There are TV soundtracks, movie soundtracks, expanded scores, bootlegs, complete scores and silly me likes to be able to see that info at a glance.

I suppose if I was limiting myself to just listening on the PC and perhaps on an Ipod the extra information would be less important.

You could still do all that without spelling it all out. You could just add OST for something that is official and then the words expanded, boot, complete, each explaining which one it is. For things when there really are two editions, you could just specify say a new expanded Intrada or FSM with a parenthetical. For example – The Sand Pebbles (Intrada 2012) with the original varese club as The Sand Pebbles (VCL). Anyway, I appreciate the response 🙂

You have given this way too much thought!!

I like my system the way it is and you are frankly the first person that has filed an objection to my "tagging" methods.

Usually I receive the opposite reaction from folks who speak glowingly of my tagging methods especially when compared to music files out there in cyber land that are devoid of any or incorrect information.

Next you will probably say that I should eliminate the attached artwork as well for that it’s taking up unnecessary space.

😀

Indeed I think about this sort of thing way too much! Primarily that is because of strange issues I encountered when having more simple naming because certain software, like Zune Player, can’t conceive that there would possibly be two albums with the same name that should be considered separate. Anyway, I think I’ve said enough 🙂

No worries everyone has an opinion and different take on things, for my purposes the tag’s work great but for others not so much.

The great thing is that tags can be altered individually quite easily to meet the needs of the user.

MediaMonkey is a great program for that as a matter of fact, even the free version is pretty good for the basics.
