ANGELA MORLEY: FILM AND TV MUSIC (Watership Down, Dynasty, Hotel, Captain Nemo) @320k

If you ever happen to catch the 1970 film adaptation of Alistair Maclean’s When Eight Bells
Toll on the telly and expect the name of Angela Morley to pop up in the credits, you’d
be surprised to find that the music is credited to one "Wally Stott". Then again, you may not be
surprised, for it is fairly well known in the film music community that Morley was in fact the world’s
first transsexual film composer, born as Walter Stott and credited as such until her sex change
operation in 1972. Since then, Morley has been composing for medium- to higher-budgeted films,
glossy TV series like Dallas and Dynasty, but also contributed orchestrations to
John Williams’ Star Wars IV – A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back.

The present album offers a colorful selection of film and television scores, including four cues
from Morley’s best-known score, Watership Down (1978). Originally, Malcolm Williamson,
then "Master of the Queen’s Musick", had been slated to score the now-classic animated film,
but since he was more or less completely wasted all day every day at the time, Morley was
assigned to the project at very short notice. Her inspired music contributes a lot to overall
(very scary, for kids!) effect of the film.

Also included are isolated cues from The Slipper and the Rose, The Looking Glass
War, and the TV series Hotel and Dynasty, as well as a few miniatures
that aren’t really from film scores but independent light music pieces.
