The whole dress sphere thing and those events kinda remind me of pokemon for some reason.
I keep thinking of those corny villains who are just there to be beaten.
Correct me if i’m wrong though.
Also:I saw some gameplay footage,and it looked pretty repetitive to grind for xp.
I did hear there is a lot to do though,and i heard blitzball is included?
Correction. The game has one of the best combat systems in the series while everything else in it sucks.
Story = Shit.
Characters = Annoying.
Combat = Awesome.
Enemies = Reused from FFX.
Side quests = Time-consuming and lacking in substantial content.
Music = Better than FFXII, worse than FFX.
Overall, it deserves a playthrough at least once, but not obsession to get 100% completion (which usually takes at least 2 playthroughs).
Its not a game you can go half measures with though – either you dive in and try and get everything, or you shouldn’t bother. Because the side missions often require a fair bit of work, but give character developing cutscenes as an eventual reward (amongst other more tangible benefits), and some add extra content to the main story (getting into the cave in the Gorge for example is rather difficult, but the sequence inside is one of the best in the game, and ties directly into the main story, so its well worth going that extra mile to get this kind of content).
There are also quite a lot of ‘hidden’ cutscenes and sequences, that are of great significance to the plot and characters, but which you’ll only get if you fully invest in the game and search diligently, pursue every quest etc. Of course, a lot will depend on whether you like the characters or not, given that there are only 3. For my money, the Gullwings (all of them, including the guys), are a great idea. Yuna and Rikku are much improved from FFX, and Paine is a good addition. She’s pretty cold initially, but if you complete enough side quests, she grows to bond more fully with the others.
Basically, so long as you don’t hate the main characters on sight (which some do, and that’s their right to hold that opinion), its a game where you get out what you’re willing to put in. Seeing the various story strands evolve over the various acts is very rewarding, and there are multiple branches to where many of them can go. The core story doesn’t change much, (although if you are extremely thorough, it has the potential to change a hell of a lot at the end!)
So yeah, its a case ‘In for a penny, in for a pound’. Go all in, or leave it alone.
I personally love the battle system. I think it’s one of my favourites. Dresspheres are really fun and I find them pretty cool, even though the transitions mirror Sailor Moon. Whatever, I like it. Very flawed, but very fun, and in the end that’s all I ask for in a video game.
