Doctor Who Classic – 1963 to 1989

I made through every…damn…episode.

From the, questionable, audio of of the 1st Doctor..
To the ‘basically audio books with pictures’ of the 2nd Doctor…
To the ‘we’re broke lets say on Earth’ of the 3rd Doctor…
To the ‘too damn long, but brilliant’ of the 4th Doctor…
To the ‘more human than TimeLord’ of the 5nd Doctor…
To the ‘vomit color and boring trial’ of the 6nd Doctor…
To the ‘political satire, dark humor, and SHAMEFUL ending’ of the 7th Doctor…

Every Cyberman, Daleks, Master, Jagaroth, and Sontaran.
Holy-Crap.

So, yeah…that’s all I got to say.
Anyone else done this?

Yes, yes I have. A number of times. When you compare the classic series to new one, you get sorta a culture shock by the new faster paced (frantically paced) episodes. And, While the 4th Doc was my first and sentimental favorite, the 9th, 10th, and especially 11th really truly give him a run for his money.

Cause after all, bow ties are cool. :awsm:

The 2nd Doctor got FUCKED.

True. And, I think he had great potential. I also liked the 7th Doc, once he and Ace settled into their groove,. A few better stories, and a tad bit time, and he would really have shone, I think. Which is why the audios for both him and Colin Baker are so good. The 6th Doc, away from **that** coat and production design, really is an interesting portrayal as well.

Did you watch the VHS, DVD (original & remasters), reconstructions (several different publishers), and what’s-it-called-with-the-slide-show?
Did you catch all 6(?) versions of the Pilot?
Did you find any of the Omnibus edits (no bookends, complete story)?
Seen any Lego versions?

Read the scripts and the novelizations?

Have you listened to the audio-only captures, the audio with linking narrations, and the novelization readings?

I once thought I had done all that. But, I was wrong. I set my mind free* and told it not to remember any of it. Enjoying it better now.

I have a vague clues as to what is going on now. Example; the first time through, I didn’t know some parts are supposed to be scary. Missed that entirely.

This year marks the end of classic series dvd releases, though I do wish the BBC would stop releasing special editions of titles I’ve already got (often with very little new content).

I agree that they are doing the double dipping, but at least they have been cleaning up the episodes and adding some new extras. It is great that everything will be out on DVD, it took forever to get there with the VHSs.

It will be nice to have a full set of DVD’s at last, I started with VHS way back with the original release of BOM and paid �45 for it from the Blackpool exhibition.

Impressed by some fans’ devotion! I’m still working through VHS copies of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Doctors’ episodes. Someday I will get to the Revisitations…. someday.

I hate the idea of buying DVDs of my VHS copies and then Blu-Ray of DVDs but I guess that how it goes.

I too have watched every episode in order of transmition. I watched the loose cannon recons for the lost episodes and thought them very good.

I like being able to spot household utensils in evil roles. The originals feel friendlier to me. Instead of wow, boring special effects. Some how the first time, when I had to imagine the explosion, it was bigger!

I have replaced everything on DVD, well up to what has been relesed. the only VHS I kept is Deadly Assassin as it was the first one I ever owned. Haven’t done the watching the whole yet but well once the remaining dvds are released, and have the LC etc to cover the gaps

To be honest my only dealings with Doctor Who was in the nineties when PBS aired Tom Bakers’ fourth doctor on cable as well as the 1996 tele-movie before the reboot in 2005. The reason I’ve not bought any of the dvd’s is they are too freakin’ expensive!! I have been getting familiar with the early doctors by watching the specials on BBC America though.
