Wow, thanks! It’s funny how this and Batman & Robin are generally regarded as lesser chapters in the Batman franchise, yet their soundtracks are some of THE most sought after.
Batman & Robin is another classic bad movie, great score
I have a real weak spot for this movie. Yeah, I know it’s terrible now, but hell, I thought it was the greatest thing ever at 16. So I’ve been able to keep a nostalgic bubble over it while realizing that it’s nowhere near as good as Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.
I watched the Rifftrax version last week, and all of the badness that I missed in theatres was right there. That said, the score literally overpowers the Riffers numerous times.
Unfortunately, it sounds like a legit Batman and Robin release may not happen any time soon.
The film is known for having a tortured post-production, with edits and subplots moved all over the place. I would not be surprised if Goldenthal scored to the longer cut (which reportedly pushed three hours).
Also, one thing I forgot to mention in my earlier post: after watching the Rifftrax of this, it’s a damn shame that Kilmer didn’t come back for Batman & Robin. His Adam West-like performance would have been perfect for what the film ended up being.
I assume the liner notes are detailed enough to describe where everything goes.
Don’t forget about 1998’s "The Avengers." Joel McNeely’s score is fantastic and the movie is a real stinker.

Haha, exactly.
They are.
And Goldenthal determined the cue selection and sequencing himself.
I just testing unzipping both disc 1 and 2 with winrar and didn’t receive any errors.

While Batman & Robin was indeed a very weak film, I regard Forever as a better film than Returns. In order from best to worst: Batman, Batman Forever, Batman Returns, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Batman and Robin.
Hmm..that is weird. I’ll re-up those tracks when I get home later.
Thanks for this OST! Have no problem extracting it.

How do you do it ?

Awesome – thanks to Machionic and JCAfterDark!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!!
Next time I’ll switch my brain on…or buy another one !
This is actually wrong the whole second cue is first then chase blanc but the cue after chase blanc when two-face’s men are getting ready to shoot batman seems to be the only cue missing.
Thanks! My birthday is this month, and I’m hoping for some cash so that I can purchase this (and Returns).

Yeah me too. I thought it was on tap with Returns & 1989, but was disappointed when I noticed Keaton was replaced. Looking back now, while Kilmer was decent, he didn’t fit the role like Keaton did. Keaton was just better. He had the facial expression, voice, better costume, Batmobile, etc. I think Keaton & Bale are up there together as the greatest Bat-actors of all time except in 2 different eras so if someone was to ask me who was better, that would be my answer. I do think the original Batmobile is better than The Tumbler though. Since The Tumbler was destroyed in TDK, I’m hopeful that in some form, the original Batmobile or something close to it will be used by Batman in TDK Rises.
And I also don’t think a B&R score, much less an expanded one will be released. Same goes for MK Annihilation because both these films are considered, rated and believed to be some of THE WORST FILMS IN HISTORY literally. And besides, with a few exceptions, Forever for the most part contains most of the music that was evidently re-used in B&R. You’ll notice of you watch them back to back. It’s pretty much the same movies except with different actors playing Batman (Clooney was THE WORST BATMAN EVER), different set of villains, different Batmobile, Robin having a bigger role, addition of Batgirl. Other than that, exact same movie with mostly same music, bad puns, sets, bad production and maybe other obviously noticeable identical similarities. At least 1989 & Returns and Begins & TDK were not the same movies like Forever & B&R are.
Just sharing my opinion man. But I do respect yours as it relates to you thinking Forever was good before looking back, I agree with you.
Right oder
01-01 Main Title 1:54
01-02 Batmobile / Introducing Two-Face 1:39
02-25 Chase Blanc 1:23
01-03 Thug Fight :55
Wrong order
01-01 Main Title 1:54
01-02 Batmobile / Introducing Two-Face (0:00-1:24) 1:24
02-25 Chase Blanc 1:23
01-02 Batmobile / Introducing Two-Face (1:25-end) 0:17
01-03 Thug Fight :55
So, track 2, disc 1 should not be edited.
No, the last 17 seconds of track 2 is not the music you can hear in the film between the tracks "Chase Blanc" and "Thug Fight". That music is either not on the CD or edited together from other cues.
A release of a soundtrack album doesn’t depend on the merits and artistic qualities (or lack of), of a movie.
There always have been soundtracks for very suspicious films. Conan the Destroyer is a late example of this. It’s not exactly the best movie of all time, but not only the score was released before on a soundtrack album, as recently had the privilege of being completely re-recorded, as well in the near future the original recording will be released in a special complete edition.
Just to point out that a bad movie doesn’t indicate that the score is bad too, with the implication that a soundtrack album isn’t released by the same token.
Just sharing my opinion man. But I do respect yours as it relates to you thinking Forever was good before looking back, I agree with you.
It’s cool. Much appreciated.
A film’s quality never factors into whether stuff gets released. It’s all a matter of rights and working out legal issues. Hell, La La Land released Yor, The Hunter From The Future in August. There are plenty of terrible films that get soundtrack releases from these specialty labels. As far as Batman goes, MV Gerhard of LLL has stated repeatedly that if it were up to him, he’d release everything Bat-related that he could. Both Burton films, Forever, the 1966 film, Mask of the Phantasm and a set of music from The Animated Series have all gotten expanded/remastered releases from LLL.
The problem with B&R is that it was never released on CD to begin with. Goldenthal prepped a soundtrack album, but it was cancelled once the film was anointed a failure. (No tracklisting has been released, so it’s unclear how much ended up on that bootleg floating around.) It’s less expensive for these labels to release an expanded version than to dig out something that never got a CD/LP release in the first place. Since WB has their own boutique label, they’re not licensing stuff out anymore. This is presumably why there wasn’t a second volume of BTAS music released, and why MV basically said over at the FSM board last week not to expect a B&R release anytime soon.
But things change in the business – the music departments at Disney and Paramount were once notoriously stingy with licenses. Then new people came in who were more sympathetic to these labels and a whole slew of releases hit the market. So I would expect there to be an official B&R release SOMEDAY (a quick check over on FSM shows many people who like the music even though the film’s lousy)… just not soon.

Actually your point is true yet I don’t think it is completely. Superman 4 wasn’t seen as a great film. Yet it was released part of the FSM Superman collection though that may be an exception as the release would likely have not been considered "complete" without Superman 4. Plus, it did have the best score of the 4 films as the other 3 are mostly remembered for Williams’ Superman theme. Plus, Superman 4 being released finally filled a lot of fan’s wishes who was waiting for it, including me.
You saying " It was cancelled once the film was anointed a failure." is why I can’t completely agree with you & goes back to my point of films that are failures don’t get score releases. However B&R & MK Annihilation got soundtrack releases with one track being a score track. For B&R, it was the Main Suite theme that played at the beginning of the film. Also, another reason it never got one was cause as I stated here or on the BF Expanded Score post that B&R mostly had music that was also in BF.
But you’re right. Things do change in the business and I think we can agree though that hopefully an expanded B&R is out one day. I really wanna hear the Ivy crashing the party in her monkey suit music as it’s one of the best music in the film IMO. Especially when she walks on those men’s back while the drums are heard as that is where the music really picks up.
Anyway, it doesn’t matter right now which one of us is right or wrong. We both could be right. We both could be wrong. Or both of us could be right on some points & wrong on others. But I say it doesn’t really matter right now as this isn’t really a thread regarding why certain scores aren’t released. Another reason why it doesn’t matter right now is cause as I stated earlier, I think we both hope an expanded B&R is out one day. Many people do actually despite how bad the film is.
The track you’re thinking of was a suite of music from Forever (despite being on the B&R soundtrack). I’ve had both CDs for years, and I noticed that immediately.
Goldenthal has said that WB cancelled the release. I’m looking online for any details, but no dice. Poor assumption on my part to automatically think the film’s failure kiboshed the score.

That,s correct

Well you may be right. Perhaps WB cancelled it because the film was a failure. Whether that is the case or not, it could be possible that this was done as most of B%R’s music was featured in Forever.
Actually if you watch Forever & B&R at the same time, you’ll feel like you’re watching an endlessly long worst Bat-film ever cause aside from the difference in Batmobile look (they both looked back by the way IMO), actors playing Batman, addition of Batgirl and bigger role for Robin in the 2nd film, and the difference of villains, it was pretty much the same film – same sets, same crew, same music, full of bad puns, a face painted gang who end up fleeing before they finish the fight (In Forever, it was Dick Grayson saving a girl from a gang, in B&R, Bane took out a smaller gang to take over the Turkish Bath place), etc etc etc
However if compared, I’d have to say Forever was a drop better. It was certainly better commercially.
I’ve decided that "Batman Forever" is my favorite of the original four Batman movies. There’s long been word of an "director’s cut" that develops some sub-plots more and re-arranges some of the action scenes in a better fashion. Maybe 2012 will be the year we finally see it?
Thanks to the uploader for this music from BF. Its fantastic. I’ve bought my copy. I really hope they release B&R. I think it is a better score. Not only due to the addition of several themes, including the gorgeous choral sections for Mr Freeze and his wife…but the orchestration is more fleshed out, the recording vast…more weighty. What does anyone else think?

The release of the Bat Anthology in 2005 was the perfect time to do it.
If not then, I don’t know if we’ll ever see it. The film isn’t highly regarded enough for WB to spend the money on a full-on recovery/restoration. There’s already a Blu-Ray release on the market too, so there’s no money to be made by repackaging the four Bat-films in a set. I could be wrong, though.

If that’s true about Ivy Crashing Party music, can you upload an instrumental version of it if you find it?
Batman Forever is really your favorite? Really? Over 1989 & Returns? Well I do respect that. But for me, 1989 & Returns both that out of this world. Got better reviews. Acting was better. Had a better actor play Batman & better looking Batmobile that actually did things on its own besides being a car for Batman to drive. BF on the other hand, while not as bad as B&R, had bad puns, didn’t have the right guy to play Batman (voice was too soft for me) and…..I don’t know. I do like the certain scenes that stick out in my mind though. I just feel 1989 & Returns overall had the right Bat-film. Yes Nolan’s did too. But 2 different eras, different Bat-movies so I like Burton’s & Nolan’s equally.
My rationale on Forever was that if you cast Jim Carrey as the Riddler coming off of Ace Ventura and The Mask, then clearly you’re shooting for a lighter and campier tone and adjust expectations accordingly. Plus – and I can only speak for myself and my friends – most of us thought that he was a perfect fit. Obviously, the role now would be less Frank Gorshin and more the low-key BTAS version.
Taken away from their context and put in a vacuum, however, it’s hard to argue the Nolans aren’t better films. The Burtons didn’t hold up as well when I revisited them on DVD.

Agreed regarding Jim Carrey. But I think that’s where the problem was. While he was the perfect fit, some thought he was too perfect cause Batman isn’t supposed to be campy. Yeah the 60’s West era as well as the Super Friends era are different versions of the Bat from the 90s. In the 90’s & on, he’s supposed to be dark in many people’s eyes. I didn’t see Kilmer & Clooney perfect for the roles for that reason & it’s why I think Carrey was too perfect. Had Forever been done & released during the West & Super Friends era, in my opinion, it would have been better received that it actually is/was….maybe even today by most who saw it, but even back then too. I think you, me & our friends were the only ones who thought it was the greatest when we saw in in theaters back then. I mean, I could not wait to see it! And if Elfman was composing, Burton was directing & Keaton reprised his role as Batman, there is no doubt it would have done better in the 60’s or 90’s or anywhere in between.
For me, Burton’s films still hold up today equally with Nolan’s cause as I stated, it’s 2 different eras. Besides being dark, they’re both completely different in every aspect you can think of.
I often wondered how the current Bat films would do if Burton & Elfman were involved. It may be a clash of styles though so it may not mesh to well. But because both have done very, very well with their films, I can’t help but be curious.
I’m starting a thread later or tomorrow about Batman. Seems like you like him so look for it in the discussions section.
Add this before the thug fight track.
Add this before the thug fight track.
I’d appreciate the link. But knowing what it is before I download it would make me appreciate it more.
You said to add it before the thug fight track. In other words, whatever this link contains will be track 3 and Thug Fight will now be track 4.

I do not Returns. But some of it bothered me as a Batman fan. When this was released & I saw in theaters, I was really crazy serious and overly obsessed with Batman and took the film seriously. Who doesn’t take things like movies seriously when they’re kids lol? Anyway, what bothered me is Batman seemed kinda….not used as well as he could have been. What I’m talking about is he let the princess die. He saw her falling & had time to save her or at least attempt to. I know she had to die for Batman to be framed otherwise why would Penguin target her? I have yet to see Batman let an innocent person die somewhere else. I love the movie though. It has memorable music, scenes, dialogue, acting. Catwoman was terrific. Loved when she told the cops that they’re overpaid (honestly I find that to be very true) and to hit the road!
But 1989 just really holds a special place in my heart. How can you compare something to something else that means that much to you? You can’t. Not only is it the first time I saw the darker Batman, it’s also the first movie I ever saw in theaters. Not bad for a first time theater visit if I do say so myself.
Or is it a recording error akin to "Joker Flies to Gotham-Batwing I"? (That wasn’t really a recording error…)
The original 1995 album had the same issue, so it’s definitely in the original mixing of the music, not an error.
Huh, never noticed that in "Nygma Variations (An Ode To Science)" before… Thanks! … And sadness :'(
Add this before the thug fight track.
Thanks for this additional cue! It fits in PERFECTLY right before Thug Fight.
Do you also have the music track from the scene where Bruce Wayne is going to see Chase Meridian at her office, and as he approaches her office he hears what he thinks is her being attacked, so he knocks down the door? I think it is the scene right before the Flying Graysons circus scene/music…

REMEMBER WHEN SPIDER MAN SAVED GWEN STACY?
I plan to buy te CD anyway but I prefer to listen to it first..
This is not an english word; it should be "re-upload".
Really dude? How about:
A) This isn’t just an English speaking world
and
B) You clearly knew what he meant anyway
Pick your battles bro 🙂

Thank you very much for the up-load, Joe.
It’s TEMPORARY.
I’ve got flac part 1 but 2 is no go.
NO.
Look, there are a couple of Peeje links that are currently showing the same. Sometimes this means the file has effectively been deleted, and sometimes they become available again after a couple of days.
If I jumped to re-upload a file every time this happened, I’d never have a life.
This is just the way the world is. If after a few days it is still unavailable, then I’ll plan to re-upload it at Peeje, and not before.
I do not use Rapidshare, as they do not allow anonymous uploads.
Alternative link added for Disc 2 (Flac).
when it comes up after clicking on it all i get is a linux page and download.exe

I now have all of La La Lands Batty movie collection apart from AW. in flac.
So happy

The FLAC file just downloaded fine for me, and opened with the specified password.
I expanded it using 3 different applications… Keka, Unarchiver, and Switch.
Either,
1) you have not completely downloaded the file and it is therefore corrupt,
2) you have not used the correct password exactly as displayed,
3) the software you are using cannot handle the file correctly.

I think that you have not read the crucial sentence…
"Each package contains Herbert West’s files (retaining the original password [ meridian ])."
Using the Orion999 password gets you the Herbert West files as originally posted, but they retain their original password.
