GLEE: THE SCORE, VOLUME ONE ~ James S. Levine

Hey guys, i’m working on another new project! Decided to do something a bit more simple. So, here’s what i’m working up!

There’s been plenty of albums released for Glee that include the hit songs they sing on the show, but sometimes I find the A Capella music that scores the show stuck in my head. This music is done by James S. Levine and none of it, except the "GLEE END TITLE THEME" is actually out there in decent quality (and properly titled) So I decided to bring everyone "Glee: The Score" It’s a big work in progress, but I can tell you there will be at least 2 Volumes, and that Volume 1 will include not only a majority of Original Cues by James S. Levine, but also the songs the show used by The Swingle Singers, and more! Not sure how many people would be interested in this, but here’s the cover art:

Good! because this "Volume" will consist entirely of Season 1 material 😀

Without wanting to come across as a snooty git… A Capella means voices without instrumental accompaniment… which I suspect is the opposite of what you’re trying to convey – unless Glee is scored with human voices and no musical instruments only… Since I have never watched it, I don’t know… anything’s possible, I guess… but just thought I’d drop that in. 🙂

Yes, this is precisely how Glee is scored with human voices. Only occasionally do insturments come in backing up the A Capella. Here is an example of one of the only cues available: Glee Ending Credits Theme – YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWEeePBXUFc)

The entire score is pretty much like this (With the exception of some Drum Cadences the producers made for the show) 😀 I find it quite catchy.

Now I do have an update. I’ve been working on it for the past hour and i’m already getting VERY good results. In fact, I have FIVE clean cues so far with MANY more to come. So I hope to satisfy you guys! And also, all of the cues will be named as James S. Levine named them. Thanks to the BMI website I know all the cue titles so I can name them properly. So far i’ve gotten:
"GLEE OPENING THEME" ("Here’s What You Missed On Glee")
"POLISHING GRAPES"
"RECRUITS"
"DRUM CADENCE NO. 1" (Which I named myself since it was not created by James S. Levine)
"GLEE END TITLE THEME"

So for only an hour it seems to be going good 😀 And there are NO SFX in any of these 🙂

Lucky for you, I’m one of the more experienced DVD rippers 🙂 Some of the cues I’ve actually spent 30 minutes working with, noise reduction and then Equalizing and mastering and such. I can tell you as a personal victim of absolutely awful DVDrips I know what people hate so I’ll make sure to make this worth it in quality 🙂 and all the cues have a nice fade 🙂

All of these have either NO SFX (Most of them) or VERY Barely audible FX (Only like 2-3 of them) Now of course, i’m still not finished yet! XD Just thought you guys would like a bit of an update! 🙂 Im still missing a couple of notable theme’s that i’m working on retrieving "CAN YOU KEEP A SECRET (SECRETS THEME)", "SUE SYLVESTER EXPRESS", "CHASTITY", "FLASHBACK STING" and one more that i don’t know the title of yet, but we’re getting there! 😀 Now, some of the above list of cues are in fact repeats (Most of the repeats are the "GLEE END TITLE THEME") but i went ahead and worked with them anyways to get the best version of that repeated piece, so the repeats will probably be illiminated for the release, but yeah. Hope this looks good! I’m excited at how many SFX FREE cues i’ve gotten! 🙂 Ill keep ya’ll updated!

Okay guys! I think this is the final update before I get to work on actually getting everything organized. Beware…it’s a LONG post. I have gotten one of the themes I was trying to get, the one I didn’t know the name of which I ended up calling "Hudsons and Hummels" and I also got "Flashback Sting" and i’m 90% sure I can get a clean version of "Sue Sylvester Express", BUT the other two "CAN YOU KEEP A SECRET (SECRETS THEME)" and "CHASTITY (SEXUAL THEME)" are completely riddled with SFX in nearly every occurance of them. So…it got me thinking, would you guys like me to do an Additional Tracks disc that has anything I couldn’t get cleanly? In other words a disc with the music that has notable SFX in them, just for the sake of having them? In which case, i’d release the clean stuff first and then work on the Additional Tracks. How does that sound? BTW the list of clean cues I have FINISHED is as follows (again, in chronological order):

Now, if you guys do want me to do an Additional Tracks Disc that have the missing cues WITH SFX in them you’ll end up getting these and more (in chronological order and also with a description of why i didn’t include it with the above cues):

HOUSE HUNT (The ending has too much SFX in it, however this theme is present in "IT’S A BOY")

SUN NOOK (Same as above)

PRINCESS ROOM (Too much SFX throughout, it is an interesting unincluded alternate to "GLEE END TITLE THEME")

CHASTITY (Well, there MAY be too much sfx during this cue but also my dvd glitches in the exact spot where it occurs in full in "Showmance", so I can’t even try and get it, may try and get another copy at a later date)

BALLOON POP (Again, the disc glitches during this cue so i’m not sure what it even sounds like, BUT I recall it being similar to "GLEE END TITLE THEME")

Episode: "ACAFELLAS":
This is probably this second biggest gap of missing material

NOTHING SEXIER THAN CONFIDENCE (The disc glitches, can’t get to it)

LOVE LIFE (Too much sfx, and also distinct echo from Will’s Voiceover)

MERCEDES HALLWAY (Way too much sfx, students chattering throughout, subtle, but not clean enough for the release)

PRISON FOOD (A little too much sfx, but nothing notable missing it’s similar to "PAMPHLETS")

MERCEDES SIDEWALK (Another notable loss, all the Mercedes cues in this episode are lovely little pieces I wish i could’ve gotten clean. These particular one is edited into the ending of "OPENING ACT" and has lots of environment noise throughout)

TANAKA AND PUCK (Too much echo from voices)

ACAFELLAS ACOUSTIC (Not actually even sure which cue this is referring to there’s an acoustic guitar track that has Puck singing with it so that makes me skeptical it could be that one and there’s a piano song, both of the two around that point are both too SFX heavy for a clean release)

MERCEDES CAR WASH (Disc glitches and would probably be too SFX heavy anyways)

GROBAN SORRY, DOODLE AND GROBAN (Both near the end of the episode, haven’t attempt to rip AFTER the glitch, these may be fine for the release)

Episode: "PREGGERS"
KEEP BREATHING (Too sfx, an alternate version of "IT’S A BOY", nothing notable missing)

103 OPEN (Too much school chatter to be clean, and when I did try to clean it up it didn’t sound to great, once again an alternate of "IT’S A BOY" but a more notable difference, completely different soprano part)

GOING WELL, HOT TUB, PRESIDENT, DANCE REHEARSAL PART II, AND TERRI AND QUINN I thought I had ripped and they had too much SFX, but i’m not finding the file atm, some of them may be fixable.

I won’t keep going with this because I think you get the picture, but there quite a few notable cues that may be missed, so if guys would like the sfx versions of these cues give me some feedback, and in the meantime i’ll get to work getting the clean ones finished up and ready for release, here’s the full list of additional cues: (that are listed in the PARTIAL season cue listing I have)

Season 2 will be "Volume 2" and if you can give me the episode and a scene it’s used i’ll see what I can do. I’m actually working on doing a cover version of the piano songs because they’re usually very sfx heavy.

Exceptional is good right? XD and yeah I’m currently away from all my files. I’m responding to this with my phone 😛 and I’m also debating with myself on how to release this particular score because the tracklist there in the picture in my previous post was going to work but idk i can imagine some people complaining about, then again I suppose the only to avoid some sort of complaint is to have EVERYTHING XD

Decided to bump the thread with an update!

Okay guys, so I did mention a couple of significant themes i’m missing, well I’ve done all the easy work with the cues i have gotten clean, so i decided to do some hard work now and find every occurance of those themes and try and piece them together to give us the clean versions, it will put off the release a little bit, but i know everyone will be so much more happy with the content! And i’m also considering dumbing it down to only the longest versions of each track, because a majority of these cues are just edited version of longer songs James S. Levine did, so we’ll see, but it’s not dead! Just so everyone knows!

EDIT: Also, the cue "House Hunt" is now clean

Alright guys im still at work on Season 1, and I actually found some new sources so I can actually upgrade a couple of tracks, but regardless i’m still at work on it, not quite satisfied with it JUST yet, BUT at the same time i’ve been working on Season 1 I also gave Season 2 a look over and im happy to announce that AFTER "Volume 1" is released there will most definately be:

😀 And also as of now the tracklist is still basically the same, with a few exceptions, and im still debating on wether i should include all the edited cues or try and string together the longest possible version of a cue i can, because really the cues for the show are suites of all the different cues you hear in the show for example "Chastity" is the full-length composition, that gets edited into smaller cues to be used in different parts of the show, so if i can make those full length cues then i will.

Alright guys! Im bumping this thread with some exciting news! Im DONE with Glee: The Score, Volume 1! I just have to get all the tracks together and i’ll put up the final tracklist tomorrow! Along with the covers! Remember, I stated in the original post that this release is PM only. If you wish to be added to the list to get the score THIS Friday, Send me a private message! Now, I know 32-40 gets kind of broad, but they aren’t properly titled yet. Now, this is at the very basic what will be on the Additional Tracks Disc, which will have SFX in it, don’t count on the titles or content staying the same, some of these cues (depending on the amount of SFX) may get illiminated and some might be added, as i havent taken into account the piano pieces and additional drum cadences. Now, I know for sure i will NOT be producing a complete score, but it’ll be the Best of the Score 😀

Also, i’ve begun spotting Season 2 and already have about 6-7 Completely clean cues including a new reprise of "Glee Opening Theme" which actually doesn’t sound synthisized but rather almost like the cast recorded it! 😀 So im looking forward to it!

Alrighty guys, a little innocent bump and also a little change of plans. I’m taking a little break to focus on some sound design i’m doing for a theatre production, including producing an original score. So, the Additional Tracks Disc will be delayed until next week sometime. No worries though! 😀 Also, i’ve begun the heavy editing of Season 2, and i’ve only even attempted to work on Episode 1 of Season 2 and here’s a teaser of the first results of Season 2:

Doesn’t that just lead to a whole bunch of threads being filled with nothing posts..? Like this one for instance?

Hey guys! It’s been a long time, and this thread has become buried. I’m happy to say that i’m still working intently on this! And I have some updates! So, here’s the deal.

On the release pictured here in this thread (that was sent out to a couple of people), quite a few of the tracks ended up being edits of the longer tracks ("Recruits" was edited down into smaller bits, as was "Glee End Title Theme", and some others) So what i’ve decided to do is make it more friendly for presentation, basing it a lot on the recent release of "Smallville" so basically i’ll be combining a couple of Seasons so we avoid repeated cues (aka smaller edits of the full cue) and we don’t have a lack of material. So i’ve been working with a few new sources and working harder than i’ve ever worked before to bring you guys the new version of the score, I can’t say for sure what will be on it, but I’m going to try and shoot for at LEAST 10 cues from each season, so 10 is the minimum. So far, for season 1 we’ve got:

1. Glee Opening Title Theme (Full Version)
2. Drum Cadence No. 1
3. Recruits
4. "It’s A Boy"
5. Glee Title Card
6. Sue’s Corner (New Addition!)
7. WOHN News
8. Can You Keep A Secret (New Addition!)
9. Teacher Theme
10. Hudsons and Hummels
11. What We’re Up Against
12. Trying To Be Intimate
13. Clandestine Meeting
14. Glee End Title Theme

These are for sure going to be on the next version (Plus, the Swingle Singers Pieces and "Looking Back" by Kerry Muzzey), i’m working on getting a few other themes as well, "The Sue Sylvester Express", "Waiting For The Results", and (it’s going to an absolute pain to put together, but i was able to piece together "Can You Keep A Secret?" from like 5 different sources so we’ll see) "Chastity". If I happen to get anything else along the way, i’ll be sure to include them as well. Now, Entirely new for Season 2 we’re going to have:

1. Glee Opening Title Theme (Reprise) [This one is performed by actual singers as opposed to the synth ones]
2. Auditions
3. Breadstix Theme
4. Finale
+5 or 6 Untitled (for now) cues.

I’m hoping to have more info on Season 2 and 3 soon.

That reaaaaaly doesn’t describe anything, if you give me a more specific example like exactly where in an episode it is used. Like, Season 1, Episode 13 at this certain scene, then I can help you. I just need some more specificity

The problem with describing it is I can’t find it among all the episodes I have access to or any clips on youtube. If I could find an example or pinpoint a scene, I could rip it myself. Googling different combinations of Glee sound effect or Glee score, Glee flashback sound etc. for 45 minutes led me here.

The sound is acapella, really fast — only like 2 seconds long, and I think it’s used for quick flashbacks, like when Sue jumps in and stops something, and Mr. Shoe says she can’t do that, and she says, "Oh, I talked to X about it" *bahdah bahdah bahdah bahdah BAAHH* Shows Sue talking to contest judge or whoever.

In fact, if this rings a bell, and you know an episode/scene, letting me know would be fantastic.

I’m a huge fan, i want this!! 😀
