New-ish user with a few questions

I would like to begin sharing some music and although my permissions indicate I "may post new threads" I do not see the button to do so in the forum I am interested in. Do I need to ask someone to enable that feature?

I would like to also include the album cover. I have the jpeg stored at my Picasa account—can I do a cut and paste from there or does that image need to be stored in my Album here?

Lastly, am I allowed to create a "test" thread, so I can be sure I am creating all the elements correctly (and, of course, delete it after)?

1. For new threads in the film, TV music thread, go here: Film, Television and Classical Music Download Links (http://forums.ffshrine.org/film-television-classical-music-download-links/). There’s a button in blue near the top that says "+Post New Thread". There’s a similar button in all the other forums.

2. Album art can be posted, as well as any kind of images, as long as you have image stored somewhere on the internet and can put a hyperlink to it. Alternatively, I guess when they updated our posting system, you can actually post an image stored on your computer. To find that button look at all the tools you have above the box I’m typing in right now. It’s almost all the way to the right side, and is a photograph with a tree in it.

3. No, you cannot create a test thread. There is not a proper way to have threads deleted, because it messes up post counts or something. You can, however, preview your thread, because there’s a preview button somewhere on the page that you are sent to once you hit +Post New Thread. Also, threads can be edited at any time, so if you see an error once you’ve posted the thread and it’s gone public, just fix it.

Also, you’re a new-ish user? You’ve been a member since 2009 and have 41 posts; I wouldn’t consider that a new user. 😉

To complete what The Dimensioner just said, don’t forget to check out the stickied thread, they contain useful if not very important info. And you can indeed I think use picasa as a file holder for your images. I haven’t done it here, but I’ve done it in other places and it worked out fine.

And TD, maybe he just made the jump from long time lurker to active member…after all, I’ve done that jump only 6/7 months ago…It may have been a problem of time, of equipment, or anything else. 😉

Thanks to the above for the information. Although I’ve downloaded here before, and posted comments, I referred to myself as a newbie since I had not uploaded/shared anything with all you yet. I want to change that but have hit several walls in doing so.

Ex: I’ve a got a boatload of promo soundtracks on CD to share—some quite rare and never posted here before. For my first album, I’ve got all the tracks (lossless) saved to a folder on my desktop. I can batch upload all those individual audio files and get links for each track, but can’t figure out how to get a single link for all the tracks. I’m trying both Megaupload and Multiupload (sorry, only those 2).

FAQs with both resources aren’t helping, e-mail inquiries aren’t being answered, and youtube tutorials only deal with uploading single audio files. What I need is someone to take me through the process step by step (in other words, talk to me like I’m 5 years old). Perhaps I don’t even understand the basics—-surely that makes me a newbie!

you can get a single link by raring/zipping (google winrar or 7zip) the files and then uploading the rar/zip file

Just a little add-on to what Sarah just said, give the archive a rather inconspicuous name. for example, let’s say you upload a promo score of "Transformers: revenge of the fallen" by Jablonsky, do not call the archive "transformers_revenge_of_the_fallen_promo_Steve_Jab lonsky.rar". (this is just an example, I don’t believe this exist anyway). use this initials of the words (which would give "SJ_TROTF_P.rar), go for leetspeak (TR4N5F0RM3R5…etc :)) or just…give it a funny, but still inconspicuous name. 😀

And don’t hesitate to put a password, it is still the best file protection. just don’t forget it when you post the link 😀

And, remember EVERYONE was new at this their first time. Ya have to kinda learn by doing. And don’t led the old jaded folk spoil your fun. Ya, I said it. This is all s’posed to be fun….:)

Well, just go in the thread, scroll down to the quick reply, type in the text, add "download", select the word download, click on the little earth symbol in the toolbar of the quck reply zone, and paste your link.

And then click "post quick reply" 😀

Thanks docrate 1; I did what you said and it seemed to work! Can’t figure out how anyone would ever know those steps without being told—is there somewhere in ffshrine where these things are explained? If so, perhaps I can learn how to get a photo in my post too. I’ve got scans of CD covers uploaded to Picasa but can’t figure out how to copy/paste them here. Thanks again!

there is an ‘image’ button around the same area where you saw the link button. on mine it shows as the third icon from the right. click that and it will prompt for from web or computer. from what i understand, the from computer option doesnt work, so you paste the url to the photo.

doesnt mean that the dont exist, just that i havent paid attention…
