I’m pretty sure he hasn’t been online the PS3 cause he lost his account after the PSN when down. When he eventually reached the bottom of my list after having been offline the longest, I had to delete him to make room for someone else. I felt bad doing it, but I figured If he got a new PSN he would post it here and I could add him.

Sadly it looks like he’s not been around here either. Anyone know if he did make a new PSN?

No the account still exists. But he might not be able to access it unless he actually used an associated email address. Basically, I had several PSN IDs that I used for playing Call Of Duty when I fancied a change of name for a while. But when you make an account on the PS3, you don’t actually have to enter any legit details, unless you intend on using the PS Store to buy things. So I would just throw a random email address in and some address details of anywhere. When the PSN came back up and I tried to log into those accounts, it told me I needed to reset my password via email. Obviously that email address never existed, so I couldn’t. The account was lost.

My main account which I collect trophies on is linked to my email and stuff. So i never lost that one. I’m just wondering if he did what I described above. I don’t think he would have done that but I know it had been over 3 months since he was last online when I had to delete him.

CPD2009 has gathered up enough courage to go on with sending a letter to his mom asking if she knows if he’s okay. However we’re holding it off until Tuesday. We know that Agent is a big fan of The Amazing Race, and the new season premieres Monday. I want to check out one final possibility before taking the letter route.

(btw, I’m sorry if I’ve frightened some people into thinking I’ve vanished too by going off the shrine for a while too. TF2 distracted me, and then a lot of things happened).

I am pretty sure I was never a 360 fanboy, man. Maybe back in ’07 when I first got one I would have said the PS3 was way too expensive for what it was (it was), but that isn’t really fanboyism. I’ve also had a PS3 since a little after they released the Slim and since then I’ve said the PS3 is probably a better purchase than a 360. Never mind all that though, so I don’t particularly like either and do most of my gamin’ on PC and Wii.

I do have a PSN but I wouldn’t give it to a cranky dude like you. My friends list is a place of tranquillity, man.

Sadly, no. We gave the letter two weeks to get from SD to Ohio a reply to come back from Ohio to SD. Nothing came back. This is getting worrying.

I did a google search of his full name… and I actually did find a bunch of results about a death notice and obituary. BUT I’m pretty sure it’s not him, because this guy died in November 2010. Scary though…

That’s not him. That obituary is for a forty-year-old man living in Deer Park, NY. There is also one other person, a teenager, with the same name who lives in Louisiana and posts on video game websites. But we know that’s not him either.

As of now, there is no reason to be scared.

Like everybody, I got worried and did some research a couple months back when we first realized he was missing. I’ll put it this way: It’s pretty terrifying how much info you can find on someone just by googling for five minutes. But it’s lucky for us that George did put a lot out there. There are no indications (other than his lack of online activity) that anything drastic has happened. That’s encouraging. And, on top of that, there are positive signs suggesting that he’s fine. Just gotta be patient and see if the letter pans out.

Because, you’re right, he did put a lot out there, but everywhere on the internet where he seems to be, his last activity was before June 2011. It’s also not like him at all to just disappear from the internet, knowing him, if his internet broke, he would have accessed from an internet cafe or a friend’s place and maintained contact.

Well, I have his address not because I looked it up, but I’ve pretty much got him to buy stuff for me from the US in the past, and once I sent a calendar over to him (well, Malaysian calendars are somewhat useless in the US, but it’s the pictures on the calendar he’s interested in). And of course his phone number is readily available on the white pages online if you have his address.

If I write tho, I’d most likely be addressing it his mom’s family name instead of her full name (again, found on the white pages with Agent’s address). I just hope she’ll open it tho.

Well, it’s interesting. Arthurgolden just pointed me to Agent’s TVTropes activity page and it has been bustling with Activity up until this morning. Pretty odd, I could’ve sworn I’ve checked that page sometime ago and saw no more activity since June this year.
Anyways, an anecdote of a dream I had during a nap a few days ago, posted to another forum (I didn’t really feel like posting it here until today for some reason):

Oh wow, just woke up from sleep. Strange dream.

I dreamt that I was up in space, then quickly shot down to Earth. Then I believe I was on a US highway zooming ultra fast (I think I was on a US highway because the signboards are blue and all have this strange red, white and blue badge on it). Next thing I know, I was at a business meeting in full suit. There was this guy who looked suspiciously like the said missing friend giving a presentation. After he was done and everyone got up and left, I got up and asked him if he is indeed the missing friend. He said he was.

We talked a bit. He showed me this website that allows one to modify/poopify any youtube video and set it to music.

I then asked him why he hasn’t been online.

He said that his phone line was on the fritz and that the AT&T guys are taking forever to come over and fix it (yeah, he specifically mentioned AT&T).

I then shook hands with him and thanked him for everything he’s done to help me.

Then I woke up.

I’m not sure what this is. Astral projection? mind-linked etherspace meeting? Just some fancy garbane my mind made up to console me over my worries on what happened to him? On one hand, it’s possible that my mind could’ve created a virtual environment out of this afternoon’s Google Earth session and carefully placed together the scenery based on shows and pictures it has seen on TV, as well as random brands heard over TV and the Internet. On the other hand, the colors in this dream was… different. My dreams usually have more vivid colors. The colors here are more akin to 70s technicolor films.

cpd2009 later pointed out that Agent once told him that he’s using Bell, so I guess this dream is jossed.

I could’ve sworn the same thing. For that reason, people shouldn’t get too excited yet. A time-stamp can end up being misleading for lots of reasons. However, I’m remaining cautiously optimistic. I sent a message to him and will let people know if he responds.

Ok, I actually had the letter to his mom posted yesterday. It’s going to the US by airmail, since that’s about the fastest I can get it to the US. Not sure if his mom will reply, I included my facebook profile name and my e-mail address, hopefully we’ll hear something from her soon.

I apologize for not responding to this more quickly. I know many people are worried about Agent. My concern was in making sure my information was correct.

To answer the basic questions: He has not responded to my messages or RAMChYLD’s.

However, the primary concern was always "Is he okay?" The answer is definitely yes. Several of his family members are in the habit of putting the details of their daily lives online for anyone to see, and his sister posted as recently as a few days ago about the gifts she gave Agent this Christmas.

The secondary question then becomes, "Why the hell hasn’t he responded to any of us?" All we can do is speculate, but I’m convinced he’s gotten our messages, maybe even has seen this thread without logging in, and is avoiding us. I have no idea why. You can call it irresponsible behavior, considering the genuine concern people have about him. But there it is.

More so, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he has created new accounts on his favorite websites under a new username. Clearly, that’s pure speculation. But he’s either abandoned the internet completely (which isn’t the case) or we can’t find him because he’s not going by Agent0042 or a permutation of his real name anymore.

It’s a bummer, I know. He was a decent guy, and a big part of our community. He’ll be missed, and I hope he comes back some day.

If we know he’s ok, then there’s no need for that. Wouldn’t that be a bit extreme anyway? Let’s use his IP to hunt him down!! When he’s obviously trying to stay under the radar by not being online here or anywhere else for quite a while.

IP won’t be that useful if his ISP only provides dynamic IP addresses tho. And afaik, in most cases, IP addresses are dynamic for home packages.

Anyways, I agree with AG that he probably wants to either start anew, or want some quiet time alone. So let’s let him be.

I’m with Jessie. The goal here was not to invade his or his family’s privacy. It was to see if there was any indication that something had happened to him. Since he was such an active member, it was totally bizarre and hard to believe that he simply stopped logging into any of his accounts. Now we know he’s fine, so case closed as far as I’m concerned.

This is the most interesting issue for me and the thing I�ve spent the most time thinking about.

Since Agent disappeared in June, I�ve written him one PM, on another site, after he’d been gone from here for five months. And I�ve spent about 20 minutes total googling his name, which led me to his mother and sister�s name, which led me to their physical addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, social networking pages, personal websites, places of employment, full names, birthdates, favorite TV show lists, et cetera et cetera. Literally 20 minutes of googling and I found anything you would ever want to know about them and Agent. No hacking, no secret know-how�you can tell how much I know about computers by the fact that the best I can come up with is �hacking� and �know-how.�

But it feels icky, doesn�t it? I spent a day in class this past semester talking to my students about these issues. The consensus seemed to be that googling someone�s name was not stalking, but telling people you googled someone�s name made you a stalker.

I can see where they�re coming from, but I think that�s so odd. It�s worth thinking about.

Not to be insensitive, but if someone I knew was purposely ignoring my PMs, phone calls, or other form of correspondence (especially snail mail), I would say fuck them and move on with my life.
