Hello everyone, I’m a frequent visitor to the site, but I’ve barely posted anything. I am an electronic artist and composer and I just moved from Florida to California to study electronic music and production at Mills College in northern California. I’ve been working on a few gaming centered projects for my portfolio that I thought you guys might enjoy. One is a retro game soundtrack made up of chip tunes and the other is a survival horror soundtrack. Both are work in progress and the playlists are continually growing, but I thought I would share them with you all.

Retro Game OST
http://soundcloud.com/dcapo1989/sets/retro-video-game-ost/

This OST is not really meant to be a completely authentic soundtrack abiding by the rules of the Nes and Its sound capabilities but instead uses more sophisticated instruments along with the classic 8 bit sounds to create something a little fresher. Hopefully.

Survival Horror OST
http://soundcloud.com/dcapo1989/sets/horror-game/

This OST is comprised of music to set the tone for the horrific kinds of scenes that would take place in a survival horror video game. Much of the music is ambient music and is primarily meant to add to that tense atmosphere you would expect.

Please let me know what you think. Ideas and constructive criticism are welcome.

Hi there,
your retro game soundtrack sounds really great. You have a good sense of melody and movement, plus it’s really fun to listen to (like a good chiptune soundtrack should be:)). I really liked the contrast between the title screen music and the following cutscene. they couldn’t be farther apart in terms of mood, yet they fit very well together.

The survival horror soundtrack is very very ambient. I think it would work very well in a game, especially the track Wake up was very unsettling with it’s haunting string line and drum. It reminded me a bit of The Thing soundtrack, the old and the new one, in that it carried an immense feeling of loneliness. But I found it a bit sad, that you didn’t carry that string part into the other tracks, they all work very well, but they seem to me like separate entities, connected more in terms of style than by a sort of theme (although that doesn’t need to be a melody or something). Apart from that it is a really interesting soundtrack and it would certainly enhance the gameplay. The Save Room track is especially delightful, in that it creates somehow the first moment or relaxation and rest.

I have a soundcloud account to: MB & FB’s sets on SoundCloud – Create, record and share your sounds for free (http://www.soundcloud.com/mbfb), if you are interested, please give my stuff a listen too.

cheers
Flo

I agree with aot, you have a good music sense. What did you use to make these; programs and such?

Your "Perpetual Motion" composition is one of the best modern piano pieces I’ve ever heard, and your philosophy behind it is very interesting. Great work man, keep it up!

I was wondering why there wasn’t a forum thing dedicated to original music. Looks like there are a few composers floating around. I must say, you are pretty good.

Very nice music! 🙂

@galaga I’m also curious as to why there isn’t a forum dedicated to original music.
