He must think his newer stuff hasn’t live up to these classics so he wants to catch lightning in a bottle again.

It was originally planned as an Alien prequel but now it isn’t apparently, it’s called Prometheus.
The comics are out, and they’re fantastic, so I see no reason for another offshoot of DADoES.
Ah, right. Cheers.
Does this movie belong to Alien franchise?

The film started out as a prequel to the original Alien film.
Some recent history: there had been talks of a fifth Alien movie for years, with alternating contributions from James Cameron and Ridley Scott. In fact, Scott had committed to an Alien sequel or prequel about ten years ago, but aborted the project when the studio opted to make the AvP movies first, and Scott was no supporter of the Alien/Predator crossover franchise. After the disappointing box office from Aliens vs Predator: Requiem, the studio shelved the AvP franchise again to go back to the original plan.
The prequel film was supposed to cover the origins of the Weyland-Yutani Company.
However, recently it has been announced that the film will not be an Alien film at all, but rather an original project called Prometheus. Some ideas for the aborted Alien prequel may be used, and the story may contain elements reminiscent of the Alien backstory, but it will be a movie separate from the Alien Universe. As such, the future of the Alien series is now unknown.
Though this is said not to be an Alien movie, according to Skymovies.com, there is a rumor that the Aliens and the Space Jockeys will appear in this movie and that they are building a Space Jockey set, but no confirmation has been made yet.
According to Michael Fassbender, this is actually an Alien movie, he says it takes place in the Alien universe. ‘Prometheus’ Is Absolutely Connected To ‘Alien,’ Says Michael Fassbender MTV Movies Blog (http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2011/02/11/prometheus-alien-michael-fassbender/)
It has been confirmed that the Space Jockey will appear in this movie.
Another rumor is that there will be an Alien but it won’t be a normal Alien, they said, it will be an Alien without the human DNA which makes us think that maybe it might be an Alien that birthed from the Space Jockey or an Alien that didn’t birth from any creature at all.
But just recently Ridley Scott stated "This is not an Alien prequel" so these rumors about the Space Jockeys and the Aliens being in it may be just rumors.
This all may be misdirection on part of the film makers to help highten interest in the film.
It has been confirmed that this is an Alien movie, but the Alien will birth from the Space Jockey and will be different from the traditional Alien we’ve seen before, it will be a Alien and with Space Jockey DNA just like how traditional Alien is an Alien with Human DNA.
However, it does appear that Ridley Scott intends to make Prometheus completly different from the other Alien films. Exactly how is not yet clear, but it is likely that the story takes place within the same universe, but it is not directly connected to the events of the original.
Although I love Alien and Gladiator, I feel Ridley Scott’s work can be kind of hit-or-miss. Like I said, I really hope he doesn’t botch up the Alien series. And tbh I never really liked Blade Runner, which is sort of why I don’t think it needs to be remade.
Has anyone seen what is billed as the "Korean" Blade Runner? "Natural City"? While it bears little resemblance to BR it is interesting and has some nice nods to set designs of classic sci-fi from the late 70’s -80’s. Too bad it didn’t have a bit more cohesion.
