This is the world premiere release of the Les Baxter score to Marco Polo – none of it has ever been available before. The complete score tapes were housed in the MGM vaults – they were, of course, mono, and in very good condition, and contained all the music that Baxter wrote for the film. In the last few years, Les Baxter have been something of a Baxter renaissance, with a surprising number of Baxter soundtracks released on CD.
We’re really pleased to present a virtually unknown Baxter score and one of his most delightful.

O
I haven’t had time to listen to this in detail, but first impressions are positive.
If I have one criticism about this release it would have to be addressed to Kritzerland. MARCO POLO was one of those European movies where for some reason Hollywood decided to release the US version with a different score. The original continental release features a score by Angelo Francesco Lavagnino. In the interest of film history it would have been nice to have both scores included in a treatment of MARCO POLO. Les Baxter did several of those kind of score rewrites. I suppose we have to be grateful, since he left us with some memorable scores, but then so have guys like Angelo F. Lavagnino or Roberto Nicolosi.
Links greatfully received.

Many thanks in advance 😀
