Assassin’s Creed Series – Licensed music used in trailers

You’ve certainly noticed the use of various mainstream (mostly indie) songs throughout AC trailers. Well, I’ve found most of the songs (STILL NOT COMPLETE) in flac and converted it to high quality mp3 files. That doesn’t mean I won’t upload lossless versions, but that won’t happen in near future.

So, I don’t want to think about labels and such, if you want the download links, leave a reply here, and I will send you a private message with the links.

LABEL EXPLANATION: Some music that was published under a certain label (like Varese Sarabande) is forbidden to post here (so the download links can’t be shown in a thread). Nature of this Assassin’s Creed stuff is label diversity, so I don’t know when a certain track would be a no-no to post. To avoid that, I can give you the links in private messages and all is good.

If I had the track, I would have listed it. I know it’s a beautiful piece (by Jesper Kyd) but it still can’t be found anywhere. The same goes for AC2 CG Trailer:

However, this one is from a very lossy source which was then upconverted to a higher bitrate, and it can’t sound better, because lost sound data can NEVER be recovered by upconverting.

This file can be found all over the net as a 256 kbps mp3, but it’s upconverted from a much, much lower bitrate, unfortunately… It has a sharp frequency cut-off at around 13000 Hz, and many, many compression artifacts on lower frequencies.

I ran this file through several filters in Adobe Audition, so it can be just a bit more better for listening… Again, this can’t recover lost data, but I think it does sound somewhat more tolerable.

And a lesson (OMG!!!):

UPCONVERTING IS BAD MKAY?
Don’t convert 128 kbps mp3 files to 320 kbps, you won’t gain anything, and especially do not convert a lossy sound file (like mp3) to a lossless one (like FLAC). Getting an MP3 from FLAC is good, but not the other way around.

You can add "download helper" to your Firefox (it’s free). It will let you get these tracks with their names. It works with vids from youtube too, for example.

quality – mp3 vbr v0 with few exceptions

I think that variable v0 is better than 320 kbps, because the final bitrate depends on the sound data itself – doing 320 kbps for silent piano tracks wastes space, so v0 kicks in and results in, let’s say 160 kbps, no need for higher, because so many frequencies aren’t used aka the instrument can’t produce any sound on certain higher frequencies, so why keep ‘blank’ data, 320 would do just that. On the other hand some rock/techno song uses so many instruments that produce a lot of sound on many, many high frequencies, v0 recognizes the need and as an example finishes with encoding at 304 kbps, and manages to even save a little space vs 320 cbr.

Your view can be different, and I won’t argue.

As you can see I also wrote "with few exceptions", because if the best quality I’ve managed to find was 192/160/224 (or maybe even 320) kbps etc. I won’t upconvert the track (if you do that, you still can’t recover what is lost because of lower bitrate), I’ll leave it as I found it. If I found the track in a lossless codec (flac, ape, alac…), I’ll transcode it to mp3 variable v0.

Might have tracked this one down. it seems to be by Methodic Doubt Music and it might be on the "Machine Vandals Vol.2" Release (could be itunes but i dunno) i found a site with a clean version. But i’m going to PM the link to the thread starter because it’s his thread and i’m not too sure about putting up links in this place.

Does anyone have the music (or know what the music is) used for their recent Gameplay Trailer? It’s got some interesting effects…

I remember in one ACR trailer that was focused on Constantinople, track Suleiman’s Grief from OST was used, but of course at the time when trailer was shown, I didn’t know the track will show up on OST, maybe it’s the same for AC3 premiere/gameplay trailers.

So I’m guessing that means Jesper Kyd isn’t back, or at least, they’re moving away from previous styles of themes and so forth that was used in the other AC games. I personally don’t mind too much, given there was a tonal shift from ACI to ACII and they’ll continue that with ACIII and Balfes work on AC:R was fantastic. Lorne also wrote the entire Multiplayer soundtrack and that was outstanding!
I know this is hard for a lot of die hard fans to admit but Lornes music actually elevated the whole series to cinematic heights!

As much as I love Jespers work and everything he has done for AC, Lorne is the one that really captures the dramatic aspect of the series.
The cliffhanger music "Reunion" is another great example!

And his work on the ACIII trailers (Debut and CGI) and his Connor Hero theme (used in GameplayTrailer Teaser and E3 Gameplay footage) sound magnificent!

But to each his own…

Lorne is really paying tribute to Jesper’s work! You can hear it in the Desmond tracks. "Modern Assassin" sounds magnificent.
Judging by the samples I’m more than pleased with this score. It sounds absolutly terrific!

Totally disagree, it’s a great track… Very suitable lyrically as well.

The first 20 minutes of the game went online on Youtube several hours ago (sadly Ubisoft already deleted it) and damn it looks gorgeous!
The new free running animations look super sweet and Desmond looks like his former self again!

Yes, I too caved in and watched the opening 20 minutes… other than the playthrough "human" controlling the game being annoying (as they usually are) and not taking it all in slowly, it was pretty damn impressive. The "Animus loading" and building the world stuff looked INCREDIBLY impressive. Can’t wait to see it with my own eyes in just a few days. Music, although hard to hear in parts, sounded great too. Lots of signs pointing to it being really quite special. Can’t wait to get stuck in, if only my damn UbiWorkshop edition would ship already!

Funnily enough, I saw WW13 sitting on a shelf yesterday and thought "hmmmm, that’s out MIGHTY early…" so asked about ACIII at the same place, they said they had it but would get in trouble if they sold it to me. Ubisoft have an office here where I am, so I’m guessing heads might roll. Evidently not the same rules in Spain! I’m just frustrated the OST doesn’t release a week or so earlier like Revelations did. Review embargo’s aren’t always a bad thing, sometimes it’s to keep the "surprises" for the game true surprises, I feel like we’ve got a little bit TOO much information on this game already, and it’s getting hard to avoid spoilers. That being said, the hype for this thing is through the roof, so it’s not going to meet everyone’s expectations. Great to hear there’s plenty more music than whats on the "Main" release. At least there will be enough in the game to keep the game-rip folks busy when it comes out on PC!

I feel they should have executed it better. I like the ending too, but really… Also, once again the hero dies. Seriously, they need to stop the trend, it’s becoming obvious lol
