How could they have justified the $250 price tag next to the PSVita offered for the same price?
The 3DS was overpriced from the start anyway.
At the moment, all it has going for it gameswise, is lots of versions of games I already own and got through playing about 10 years ago.

This is exactly the reason why I never understood why people wanted this so bad.
time to put that SF4, mercenaries and OOT 3d to use!
This makes a my wallet sigh with relief.
And with such a miserable selection of new games, plus as we’ve mentioned, lots of old games that Nintendo hardcore fans already bought and had their enjoyment from decades ago, there’s little incentive to buy the 3DS.
There’s only so much abuse us hardcore fans can take! Capcom would do well to take note of that, as they merrily shaft their western fanbase over Ace Attorney Vs Layton and Ace Attorney Investigations 2, as well Megaman Legends etc etc.
Keep kicking us, and we’re going to start to kicking back, you oriental devils!
I have mine reserved. I can’t wait for that sexy, hand-held beast to come out.
They will be free on the eshop by August 12th. Anyone who bought a 3DS before that point obviously paid more for it and can download the free games.
One thing I always thought was stupid about the DS was the fact it was capable of 3D (one of its main draws), yet only had a D-Pad. Honestly, Nintendo, you know better than that. Even making the excuse that the touch screen was to stand in for an analog control stick doesn’t fly, because Nintendo has been in the business long enough to know how fucking lazy 3rd party developers can be when they might actually have to USE a console’s new features.
And now the 3DS comes out, and we’re all here, wallets in hand and saying ‘Look, just give us a reason to buy this thing, we *want* to buy it, we want to support you, but you’ve got to give us something here!’
Its not too much to ask, surely? I love Nintendo, even after the disaster of the Wii. I do want a 3DS, but until there are games worth playing on it, and some cast iron assurances that Nintendo are actually going to support this thing, then no way am I splashing out.

EXACTLY. Couldn’t have said it better. Had I money to spend, this is what I’d be thinking word-for-word.
I’ve always waited for the prices of things to come down, which is why I’m always late to the party, so to speak, about all the latest and greatest games available. I’m not picky with consoles; I’m sorta like a dog chasing a cat with games. A cat is a cat; a console is a console. If it runs well, doesn’t fight back, keeps me entertained and is affordable, it’s worth it.
PS3, Xbox360, doesn’t matter to me. They offer a great selection that gives great variety, and despite this price drop, I’ve already got a similar system (the DS) with plenty of great games to choose from, whereas this one–like the Wii–only has a bunch of gimmicky ones (i.e. Nintendogs, sports games, etc.) and a few niche titles, but not a whole lot to offer in the action department. Zelda or not, patience could be very rewarding in the end. The worst thing that could happen–and I don’t see it happening–is it suffers the Dreamcast’s fate and then I’m screwed unless I find some used games and a used system :p The way I see it, there’s still a ton of games out there on other platforms to try while I wait for this one to age a little more; the flavor might just be a tad sweeter in time.
Just my two cents; don’t mind me 🙂
edit: Looks like my sentiments are quite mutual with a great many others ^^

What??!!! How dare you speake logic while everyone is in a serious console war!
Hehe see what I did there. Yeah multiple system (if you can do it) is the way to go.

The 3DS is backwards compatible with DS games, so in light of the inevitable phasing out of the DS, you might as well "upgrade", even if the funky 3D effect is nothing special to you. It isn’t to me as well, honestly. Support and spare parts for the DS will also phase out eventually after the system does.
I will buy the 3DS solely because of Ocarina of Time, and whatever other Zelda titles are eventually released on the system. That’s all the reason I need. =p
Well, I might get some Mana, FF, and other titles of mild interest, too.
also, unsurprisingly, 3ds sales skyrocketed after price drop.
which gets to show you that people will always try to get what they want cheaper.
so unless the vita price drops fast, not many people will buy it (regardless of what it offers. the prices talk, not the content -there are exceptions))
