Hi all!

I have written a petition in the hopes that if it gets enough sigs, SE may make another game that brings back the awesomeness of FF IV, V and VI. I know it’s a long shot, but SE has responded to other petitions in the past. A petition to remake FFVII which has 20,000 sigs was submitted, and SE replied that they have no intention to do a remake currently. So, I’m ambitiously hoping to get at least 100,000 sigs before submitting the petition. Also, I will translate it into Japanese and send it to Square Enix Japan.

If you don’t agree, that’s fine. Don’t sign. But, if you’re like me and think that SNES was the greatest system ever made and long for a new 16 bit Final Fantasy, please go ahead and sign. thanks!

To Square Enix: Please create a new 16-bit Final Fantasy Petition (http://www.petitiononline.com/finalf16/petition.html)

They have done FF4 The After Years, but I presume you mean a FULL game, and in which case I doubt it will ever happen. But it’d be a cool experiment, one I’d like to see, so I’ll sign 🙂

I’d love to see FF7 to FF13 done in the ‘classic’ style – just for shits and giggles.

Although I loved the 16-bit era of gaming (FFIV and VI in particular are my favourite FF games), I’m realistic and know that the era is well and truly over – 16 bit game design is only a niche market at best, which is not where the money is.

Besides, what made FFIV and IV great (V has it’s share of faults though) was not the fact they ran on 16-bit hardware with pixel graphics and a 256 colour palette, but because they were well written and well designed, with interesting and enjoyable stories and battle systems that worked well. This is simple game design theory that is appropriate for any game regardless of platform, genre or media.

It should also go without saying, but sadly, the 16-bit era is over and should be remembered as gaming’s ‘golden age’, but that doesn’t mean it should be attempted to be revived when the patient expired fifteen years ago.

It’s only a niche market because developers are afraid to take the risk and see if 16 bit games would sell as well as they did 15 years ago. In my opinion, if a game on the calibre of FFVI was made there’s no doubt it would sell extremely well. Just because more advanced technology exists for developing games, it doesn’t mean it will make them better.

BTW, I thought the 8 bit era was over two until Capcom released Megaman 9 and 10. Those games captured absolutely everything from the magic of the original NES series.
