I actually quite like this, although I wish the Super Metroid opening theme (from the first cut scene) was included, but the cue that Depths of Brinstar is based on is one of my favorite tracks from Super Metroid, so I’m glad it was included. And it sounds pretty dern good, too! Thanks for sharing!

Any chance you’ll do this for other SNES titles?

I hope you do! There’s a lot of "ReMixes" out there (ala OC Remix) that change the song and mix it very differently. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I always preferred arrangements like yours that take classic tunes and update them with better instrumental quality. Well done, and I would love to hear some more!

I have a question about track 9, "The Abyss."

I don’t recognize it from Zero Mission and I haven’t played Super Metroid in years. Which song is it from which game?

Btw, nice job.

Hi Lawrence Bastard,

The track 9 named: The Abyss is the music from Maridia 2 in Super Metroid: Youtube – Maridia 2 (http://youtu.be/soUZ9gY4erw?t=6m41s)

So it is. I forgot Maridia had a second theme. Thanks.

I took a listen, and I don’t want to sound harsh, but I was kinda underwhelmed. This is basically the original SNES tunes note for note with a sound patch upgrade, and even the upgrade isn’t all that noticable for me. The tracks don’t stray away from the original 16bit tunes, be it structure-wise or instrument-wise.
If OCRemix and official re-arrange albums teach us one thing that re-arranging doesn’t stop at increasing the sound quality of old VGM tunes. It’s about doing something interesting with the original track. Now, personally, I don’t judge the quality of a new interpretation by how far away from the original piece you are away from in terms of genre and instrumentation. Quite the contrary, an arrangement can be awesome as music, but loses out if I don’t recognize the original theme. So if you basically had delivered a pumped-up version of the original, I would have been happy with it. In fact, someone did that recently, look it up at MetroidDatabase. The webmaster didn’t like it that much because it didn’t change all that much, but I really liked it just because it was a 2011 version of the same soundtrack. The OCRemix album "Relics of the Chozo" also didn’t dramatically changed the mood of the original track, but delivered on terms of atmosphere.

I don’t know how much experience you have with music, but try to change the actual soundscape more with your next project. This way, your arrangement will gain its own identity and intrigue listeners easily. This album isn’t bad by all means. It just didn’t give me a good enough reason to listen to this one when I can listen to the original. Now get bold! I will surely stay tuned for what you cook up next!

The goal of this project is to provide the original music of Metroid in a better sound quality. I think there are many more remixes than OST arranged. I also realized that my work will not suit everyone, so I can understand your opinion and your deception. However, I take note of your critique K. Bacon for the future.
