Hey there! Whenever I come to this site I’m always in awe at all the soundtracks I listen to that inspire me to try games I’ve never tried before. I’ve been on a recent Shmup kick lately and I’ve been running through a couple that I’ve liked and some I haven’t. Some shmups I really like are on the TurboGrafx-16/Turbo-CD, like Gate of Thunder, Air Zonk, Super Air Zonk, and Blazing Lazers, and I know that Japan had a really long list of successful shmups they had released on the PC-Engine that did well. I did my Cave and Touhou tour of shmups for arcade and PC, and man are those some crazy danmaku’s, but still very enjoyable.
Being on such a shmup kick, I want to know some really good games to check out, and I know this is the place to ask, because the shmup community on this forum is not matched anywhere else. (Simon B.’s Shmup OST collection thread, anyone? Haha)
I really enjoyed the diversity of the weapon upgrade system in Blazing Lazers, but I liked the high-octane manic shooting of the Dodonpachi series. Any system is fair game, though I will say that some MAME games just don’t play well with my system, besides that, I’d like to hear suggestions and opinions on the shmups you love, and that I should try. Thank you very much!
