From Russia With Love Edition LaserDisc Commentary (1963 Film) (1991 Commentary) MP3

After releasing the first 3 James Bond films on Laserdisc in a 2-disc CAV format in 1991, Criterion was asked by EON Productions (producers of the James Bond Films) to recall all unsold Laserdisc product.

They felt that the audio commentary tracks on the 3 titles were unacceptable to Albert R. Broccoli, one of the original producers of the 3 films.

The people on the commentaries Bruce Eder(Film Historian)Steve Rubin (Film Historian), Terence Young (Director),Peter Hunt(Editor),Ken Adam(Production Designer),Richard Maibaum(Writer),Guy Hamilton (Director) speak their minds and say pretty much anything they feel with no reservations.

Like the screenwriter of From Russia With Love Richard Maibaum calling Ian Fleming a "Snob", or Director Terence Young recalling Chris Blackwell’s (founder of Island Records) affinity for marijuana.

Ideally this is best listened to whilst watching the film since much of the commentary is scene specific, but it is still a great listen on it’s own.

I bought all three LaserDiscs when they were released and within 6 months all three had been pulled and the "offending" commentary tracks removed from the new pressings, although for awhile the secondary commentaries were available on cassette from Criterion.

I was just watching the From Russia with Love DVD the other day and thinking how much better the commentary was on the Criterion disc. (On Criterion discs in general.) So thanks for going to the trouble of ripping and posting the Bonds.

These commentaries add so much dimension and texture to the films. In their own way they are a soundtrack done in words. Hard to believe ‘FRWL’ is almost 50 years old !!!
