Over the years i’ve grown quite frustrated with the lack of any good rips of Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal. I have seen quite a few, but they are always lacking in some way. Bad sound quality, in-game sounds in battle music, missing tracks etc. When i learned that the 8 bit tracks were included in Heartgold/Soulsilver i got really excited, only to become very disappointed when i found out that they don’t sound anywhere near as good as the originals (they added some weird echo effects etc.).
So this is the first rip i have ever done, from a GBS file through the nezplug plugin for winamp. I thought it would be easy, just set it to two loops + a 10 second fade for each track. I didn’t like the result though, so i ended up setting it to loop each track for four minutes, which yielded about 100 tracks of 4 minutes each. Identifying and naming everything was tough (the HG/SS rip on this forum helped a lot here, but something like getting the exact route numbers for each track was a real pain). With everything identified and named, i then cut and faded every single track by hand in audacity to get the fades sounding good.
The only things not on here from the GBS file is the short "pokemon fully healed" jingle, which i consider more of a sound effect, and another track that just sounded like a sound test(it’s not in the game). Everything else is there, including the three tracks found only in the japanese version.
I spent somewhere between 7 – 9 hours doing this from start to finish (over a few days), so i hope you enjoy it :).

Please let me know if there are any problems with the link or rar file.
One last thing, if you are confused by the way i chose to sort the tracks, here is a quick explanation. I put everything into categories and sorted the tracks within the categories by when you hear them in the game (New Bark is the first city theme you hear, Pallet is the last one, and so on).
The order is as follows:
-Intro/Menu
-Cities
-Routes
-Friendly Interiors
-Hostile Interiors
-Encounter Themes
-Battle Themes
-Victory Themes
-Traveling Themes
-Events
-Radio
-Misc and End

That makes my soul weep

Just download the game’s tiny sound code rip file (for Game Boy games these files are called .gbs), and play it through one of the many players available. The easiest way is to use Foobar2000 and it’s foo_gep plugin. You can also make your own MP3s this way, and indeed this how 99.99% of the chiptune fan rips are done on this forum, unfortunately. I say unfortunately, because emulation is never 100% accurate, and so making huge inaccurate FLAC/MP3 transcodes of these tiny sound code rips is a foolish waste of time and disk space for anyone who knows better, especially since most popular portable devices also have players for the tiny sound code rip files.
Some rip formats like .gbs can NOT have track names and info embedded in them, so if you want to see that info while playing the .gbs (or when you convert to MP3) you need to find a .m3u playlist file made for the .gbs (or make your own), which should not be hard to find for a popular game like Pokemon.
