Marc Streitenfeld ~ Hank Shocklee
introduction
There are two official soundtrack releases for American Gangster: The 2007 compilation with original and era songs featuring two pieces of Marc Streitenfeld’s score as well as some source tracks by Hank Shocklee. In time for the video release, Marc Streitenfeld’s collection of music was released along with three more source cues. Sadly, the score album is still far from complete.
The album release features classics like "Across 110th Street" and "Hold On, I’m Comin’" which should be in every serious music collection anyway, so I did compile only the original material and supplied chronological playlists.
playlists
The standard playlist /americangangster.m3u (or simply drag the folders /score and /source on your player software) retains the original score album’s sequence for Marc Streitenfeld’s music. The instrumental source music is in chronological order while the two original songs give a nice ending to the compilation. If you wish to have a nearly chronological listening experience, open the file /chrono1.m3u with your audio player. This mixes the score and the source parts. If you want a chronological album but Streitenfeld’s score separated from the source tracks, use /chrono2.m3u.
/chrono3.m3u is my preferred version …
part 1: chronological score
part 2: chronological source music
part 3: songs
making-of
There are severe loudness differences that I compensated with replay-gain, keeping the original audio itself intact. Your audio player should support replay-gain playback. If not, attenuate the four source tracks from the 2007 album by -7dB and the score part by -5dB with an audio editor like Audacity. (Track 16 and the source cues from the score album – 2, 6 and 7 – should remain unchanged.)
The score album part was ripped from the Japanese CD.
The end titles music was ripped from DTS stream.

Marc Streitenfeld’s score is bold. 🙂
I accidently flipped sides: right channel should be left channel. will correct this. (but you may also do it by yourself.)
All files are now correct.
Thanks for this!
This reminds me of an extended project I’ve been working on!
Good work. Looking forward to this.
Rep for you.
– improved track 16 (now sourced from Blu-Ray DTS instead of DVD AC3)
Do I remember well or there is lots of music still missing (unreleased)?
I hope we have the complete score one day (as we had for Robin Hood)

There is quite a lot of music that remains unreleased. I heard somewhere that Streitenfeld recorded nearly 2 hours of music, the vast majority of which (obviously) remains unreleased. When I have the time, I might take a crack at a DVDRip, but I haven’t even heard whispers of any unreleased music being available.
Streitenfeld is an RCP composer, meaning the rest of the material is locked up in Gringott’s. The only one here who ever releases them is Scorepranos
Rep left 🙂
