So, I think this is a fan made boot. JHFan may be able to enlighten us. I tend to remove tracks from albums as I acquire them, like the D.B. Cooper tracks. I am curious about the track from Perfect Storm though (longliners) and whether this is an unreleased track, or if it is a retitled track from the OST? Even though the album is encoded @ 320, I doubt some of the sources are such….
The CBS theme is mine, one of my earliest recorded edits of it. The rest are for the most part, sourced from VHS and DVD recordings from what I can tell.
The music was taken from many different sources: already available short bootlegs (like Streets of Fire), cd singles, DVDs, VHS and even music from 11kbps real audio mono tracks, like the beginning of the "Universal Pictures fanfare" on its longer version.
What you have posted, is some kind of mix between the 2 first "Rarities" albums. With the pass of time, most of the music is now outdated as new albums have been released for some of the scores here presented. Still, your compilation is missing the rejected suite from "Streets of Fire", which was included in the first Rarities album and I don’t know if you already have in your collection.
I’ll list here the tracklist of all 3 rarities albums, all 3 were compiled in the early 2000’s, so they don’t contain any new music appeared since then:

With the pass of time, and the appearance of the new albums, their content is now mostly outdated. Anyway, for anyone interested, I can provide any of the cues, as well as the complete albums and their original artwork in mp3 or even glorious "lossless" quality :D.
I do have the streets of fire on the posted link….:D
The one which sure doesn’t comes from them is the "CBS Theme" which wasn’t composed in those times, and probably the Universal Logos, specially the long one, if it has good sound.
I’ll upload probably all 3 volumes in vbr (lame -v2) and their original artwork, in a different thread. Later, I can upload in lossless if necessary. I don’t have any rapidshare or megaupload account. Which server is better for uploading without the risk of the files being deleted soon?

On things like this, and the suites and themes, I often edit as I go. If an album shows up, then I remove those particular tracks, and often merge smaller archives into one, being as they are compilations anyway….
I understand your mood on removing tracks as they are finally released officially. I prefer to keep the original compilations as they originally were, just for my Horner library.
By the way, you may be already aware that Rascals and Robbers has been recently released by FSM.

I was not aware of that new release. Any idea on where to get a link??

I have a question in regards to Track Number 15 on the James Horner Rarities Compilation Volume III. Is the track title "Surviving" a cue from the film Testament that starred Jane Alexander and William DeVane? I don’t see any cues from his work on that film in your compilations… to me that was one of his most haunting, emotional scores he wrote during the 80’s.
Testament is posted on here somewhere, on an album with In country…if you can’t find it, I can look for the link.

I think we should all get together, make track suggestions, and make our own Horner compilations. Then we could post it, and that ass who is selling on the other site could get rich off of it…:b
Could anyone link me to JHFan’s CBS Theme thread?
I would love to have the soundtrack, but so far, so lousy. Just a clip here and there.
thanks
