Anyways if I had to rate my favorites I’d say:
1. FF7
2. FF4/9/10
3. FF1/6/12/13
FF8 isn’t bad but the adolescent story kind of turned me off a bit. I wouldn’t say I didn’t like going through it the few times I have.
3 and 5 are meh
2 is lol.
Fans of the series normally say VI better than VII just because of tradition, the classic feel of the game & the similiarities between both games polarizes it even further.
VII meant the death of the classic FF & people can have hard times welcoming change.
Mechanically speaking VI had a great system as VII had an awesome too, I prefer VII because it’s more versatile & customizable, but other people prefer VI because they don’t like multi-class characters or shit like that.
In terms of story & characters, I personally think that the cast VI is likeable because of their personality traits, that’s it. The story of the characters itself doesn’t hold by itself, VII did a better job on that part but many characters of VII can be unlikeable, Tifa is an example in my case.
Speaking of Villains & Antagonists, both Kefka & Sephiroth are highly acclaimed as the best villains of the series, were Kefka is a fauvorite for FF fans & Sephi fauvorite for VII fans only.
My personal take is that Sephiroth is an ok Villain, stupidly bullied by VII haters for calling him a mama’s boy or whatever shit like that. What I like about him is how he takes the actions more than anything else & his storyline is rather enjoyable because it shares things with other characters as well & his personality traits before making himself evil, are quite likeable for me.
Kefka IMO is just a blatant Joker Rip-off and they don’t even try to hide that one bit & they even stole the storyline of Batman’s character from Alan Moore’s Killing Joke.
While the Joker is a great Villain, I don’t like carbon copies so I take any FF villain anytime before Kefka.
Speaking of the Flavor of each games, VI does an awesome job exploring the nature of the Espers & that is an awesome thing.
VII on the other hand explores metaphysical concepts such as the Lifestream & I have really good times with that part of the game & IMO is what makes the game awesome, but I like that part because of the nature of my thoughts & personality, nothing else.
I won’t say which game is better, they just different to me. Both games have their merits & faults. VI is quintessencially the best FF for the fans of the Classics. Personally I think that IV is best of the classics.
VII would be my fauvorite of the series if we are leaving aside the Ivalice Compilation, techincally speaking is part of the franchise but to me is a very different creation.
So if VII is your fauvorite FF game, that’s great, as long as you are not one of the fanboys that like VII just because nostalgia & can’t overcome the impact that the game left them.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAH, I watched that video some time ago, right about the same time I reached these forums.
That’s a pretty hypocritical video with some degrees of truth in it.
It’s a truth video…
It’s both… It’s a rant & curse to the fanboys and the game IS overrated. So it’s both.
It was poorly translated to start…the battle system sucked…the music was mediocre, until ‘The Black Mages’ got a hold of it.
But SE, and the fan-base, allowed them to milk it with a piss poor movie, a mediocre anime, a decent (if generic) FPS/TPS and then a REALLY boring PSP game.
This when the ‘verse’ of games like FF8, FF2, FF6, and even FFT…go explored.
:/
the combat i thought for 6 was good though, i really enjoyed the system. I think both 6-7 are vastly overrated, but i would place 7 above 6, but 7 isnt even my top 3. =/ just me though.
It changed almost everything, that’s why.
The graphics & the navigation system is a pretty different one.
The Art design is handled by another artist.
The battle system raised the bar on customization compared to the oldest titles, V & III being the most customizable from the classics but they had a Job System & the storyline of those games demanded a fun gameplay to balance it.
No Moogles until FFIX.
That’s all that comes to my mind, but those things were key on the classics.
But, if that is how normal people describe classic, then i could agree that the "classic" was ended with 7. but again, just never read it that way(though i didnt read much sorry)
I will say though, that the one one thing i love about FF is that the combat system, whether it is junctioning, materia, atb, class system or what have you, is always changing, which keeps it fun.
as far as graphics changing that was bound to happen. also, what do you mean by "navigation system" changing…still airships, boats, world map…so not sure what you mena, do clarify. unless you mean the rotational view of things.
Sephy was a worthless mama’s boy with a kill count WAY below Kefka (also, the best thing to happen in FF7’s ‘story’ was Aeirith getting shanked – damn hippies!)
Cloud was a liar with ‘shellshock’ and a self-hating fetish (the FF7-verse only made him more of a pussy).
Ultimatica comes out of nowhere…(face time wise)…and we’re suppose to care about her?
Squall, while I do like the character at times, was fucking spineless most of the time – for a ‘love story’ themed game no one says ‘I love you’, not once? Fucking-A?
Kuja was GREAT – if a bit ‘in the closet’ (not that there’s anything wrong with that) – until you find out you have to fight the ‘REAL’ bad guy and Kuja gets the ‘he’s really just like the hero, if only someone had saved him’ + mind control BS.
(You know he and Zidane spooned at the end, we all know it).
Zidane was decent as a sort of ‘playboy’ (though he never really got badass about it) and he was TOTALLY out shined by Vivi – a fucking doll.
Then in FF10 you had this whole ‘we’re fighting evil Sin’ – no, it’s the Catholic Church knockoff – no, it’s dear old dad! – no, it’s a fucking 1000+ year old TICK!
Tidus (TEE-DUS?) was about the most annoying Amuro Ray knockoff I’ve had the chance to encounter in a game thus far – never really doing much but point out the obvious and ‘falling in love’ magically with a girl he hardly knew because he was Mario and she’s the fucking Princess.
Nevermind I didn’t get my ‘Bright Slap’ to make him likable.
In FF12 you have the same issues as FF8/FF9/FF10 + STAR WARS (prequel level – IE: not the good ones) when it came to villains.
There was the whole set up of ‘War, WORLD WAR’ but it turned into a fetch quest and then a ‘the Martians are fucking E-VAL!’ then the Prince and the King and then…O, fuck it.
As for the lead hero? WHO THE HELL WAS IT? Vaan or Ashe or Basch? Regardless, once again a SIDE character steals the damn show!
Baltheir & Fran go ‘Han Solo & Catwomen’ on their asses…

And I’m ranted out.
>_<
LOL! HAHAHAHAHAHHA!
I’ve never looked it that way xD.

VIII is a comedy satire to me. Not one thing on that game makes one bit of sense. LOL
Kuja was GREAT – if a bit ‘in the closet’ (not that there’s anything wrong with that) – until you find out you have to fight the ‘REAL’ bad guy and Kuja gets the ‘he’s really just like the hero, if only someone had saved him’ + mind control BS.

This I happen to disagree, Kuja was not Great to me, he was the same shit as the Emperor of II & Kefka, only gay(not that there’s anything wrong with that).
And the OMG ZIDANE & KUJA ANTI-CHRIST EVUL TWINZ, made it even worse.
Of course then Necron appears quoting Yoda & you’re like WTF? & the game finishes to achieve it’s suckage.
I have to agree though that Vivi got the best of all IX.

Sounds like you haven’t grasped the intentions of the characters/antagonists in the whole game o didn’t understand the story itself.
But I have to agree that there’s no Lead Hero.
And the addition of Vaan to the cast made it terribly annonying.
When it came XII villains I don’t found it comparable to the SW Prequels… I don’t know where you got that out.
To me in XII there were no villains, only antagonists.
And I’m ranted out.
>_<
LOL! Hi five for ranting.
what i love about ff as a series is that (perhaps starting from vi) they are so drastically different from each other. there really is no right or wrong answer to which is greatest ff, because each person will prefer a different game in the series. i know quite a few ffviii lovers, even though i don’t particularly like it myself.

Also alot of what happened in VII was inspired by VI’s storyline.
-Futuristic technology
-Magic playing a major role in the story
-The main villain being a angel being in the end
-Both antagonists gone mad
-Both antagonists actually playing a major role in the game instead of just appearing near the end or at the end altogether.
etc etc etc.
Also Kefka is the only villain in the series to actually achieve in what he wanted might be a argument people may use against Sephiroth.
In terms of gameplay mechanics, both games had similar gameplay systems in which you equip something (VI had Espers/Magicite while VII had Materia) and grinding off into neverland to learn all the spells etc.
