Are PS3 games getting serial numbers? We sincerely hope not. (http://kotaku.com/#!5754666/are-ps3-games-getting-serial-numbers-we-sincerely-hope-not)

I think you should be more angry at Sony here, if this whole thing is true.

I don’t think they’re gonna do it. Because, otherwise it’s bye-bye PS3. And even if they do, they’ll quickly realise the mistake and get rid of the system before too many games suffer from it.

Still, it’s their own damn fault. They shouldn’t have removed OtherOS in the first place. Every hacker got to tinker with their PS3’s without anyone stopping them and without it even being illegal. Removing it was practically a dare.

Remember Smarty, Sony have made a few mistakes with their game consoles. Look at what Sony did with the PSPGO. Getting rid of the UMD drive… alienating earlier PSP users thinking of upgrading as they’d have to repurchase their PSP game library. From what I’ve heard, the PSPGO hasn’t done anywhere near as well Sony was hoping. That’s just one thing…

After reading the article, I can see some holes in their plan to do this, but I don’t understand why I should be upset about Sony wanting to protect their property. It’s like siding with the burglar who gets his ass beaten down for breaking into someone else’s house (probably a bad analogy, but it’s all I can think of right now). Perhaps you guys can clear this up for me… This is a serious inquiry by the way. 🙂

I see your point now… interesting. Hopefully they can come up with an alternate solution then.

dumbest fucking idea ever

Oh, well, it would just be amazing… This serial protection+YLOD = You quickly end up using all 5 lives. Ironically, these "5 chances" seems the only thing not-so-stupid from Sony’s POV to me, after all they’re already doing it with the stuff you purchase on the Store: 5 free downloads, then you have to purchase again…. If this ‘idea’ really gets implemented, I seriously hope they also think of some sort of legal-unlock service.

This likely wouldn’t protect anything. Hackers will likely find a way to get around it, so in the end it’ll just hurt paying customers.

True dat…

While I may applaud Sony for taking this anti piracy/whatever stance… can’t help but think, "What’s next? First born children? Blood of Virgins?"

I laugh at attempts to stop Piracy…

Companies haven’t learned that everytime they try to do something about it the consequences turn against them…

I personally think Sony is getting what they deserve…being an ass to their fan-base and releasing shitty OFW…

I remember trying to get a tour at the Church of Scientology. They wanted me to fill out this paper so they can know where I live and my number. Why the hell does anyone need to fill that shit out just for a fucking tour?

My friend gave them his information when he wanted to look at stuff as a joke back in high school, and he still gets mailings from them all the time, in spite of the fact he has moved since. They are pretty creepy!

I don’t think there is anything wrong with trying to stop hacking, but this is a pretty stupid idea. I imagine they’d lose more money from it than they would save.
