To start I’ve recently become a mod over at another site and they have some VERY interesting things that, if possible to implement here, would REALLY help out the site.

1) Sync List
–> Their sync list is automatic for each section and takes the title and link of any approved posts and places it in a sticky-ed topic in the top of that section.

Benefits:
Sync lists allow users to find links to games faster and it keeps the forums more organized.
In addition, if someone is doing a request folks filling the request can first see if the game is already on the list.

Drawback:
The first and foremost drawback would be the need for established threads to slowly be broken down as there could only be one thread per game or wares – like the ESR Compatibility section.

Additionally, this would require mods being proactive instead of reactive.

2) Moderator Control Panel:
This panel is set up in such a way as allow mods to see problems before they become huge issue.
By having dead links automatically reported a mod can easily delete dead threads/post and/or inform uploads of their posts are down and give them a set time to re-up the links.

Benefits:
It makes modding easier and additional it allows for the site to be more alive by having dead topics removed quickly and dead links replaced just as so.

Drawback:
I honestly can think of any.

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I understand that much of this would require some work at the site, and a totally new attitude over at this site however I also feel that by cleaning it up we could, and would, grow as a community for uploaders, downloaders, and those in-between.

Thank you for reading.

Congrats on your new mod status there, Tanis! Also those are some great ideas. I hope they’re implemented and given a chance.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen references to Moderator Control Panel in my settings or tools somewhere before, but I don’t think we can actually access it. At least, I haven’t been able to.

I don’t think our mod panel actually does that, but we do have a dedicated mod control panel. It’s useful for checking IPs. That’s all I use it for.

How do you get to it?

Well, might be fun to try, even if only once…
