This is the long out-of-print semi-soundtrack CD to Disney’s direct-to-video "midquel" to their Oscar-winning 1991 blockbuster Beauty And The Beast. While the music, for the most part, doesn’t quite measure up to the original, it stands very well on its own, and I feel like "Stories" is as good as any song from the original. In addition, "As Long As There’s Christmas" has the potential to become a perennial mainstay on many holiday playlists. Sadly, the score is criminally underrepresented here, with only three tracks totaling around three minutes, tacked onto the end of the CD.
The major treat on this CD is the inclusion of eight – well nine, actually, if you count the two songs from track 10 separately – very tasteful and beautifully done readings of classic Christmas carols from "Belle" herself, Paige O’Hara. While more score would have also made this a rounded out album if that’s what they were going for by including these tracks, it’s still a better effort than most of their other direct-to-video soundtrack albums, which usually contain the 4, 5, maybe 6 songs from the film and maybe one or two tracks of score.
While many out-of-print soundtracks by Disney have made their way to iTunes, other digital downloads, or even overseas CD reissues, this one remains long out-of-print, so here it is in all its’ beautiful lossless glory, plus an MP3 version for those who need one for whatever reason.
Lossless is the way to go! 😉
