Apple Lossless straight from my CD.

Hello

I don’t know what’s wrong with it. Megaupload just says it’s temporarily unavailable. I’ve seen it do that before and it just goes back to normal after a while, so maybe give it an hour? Or you could download Leon Scott Kennedy’s mp3 version, instead. The link still works.
And please, guys, if you can, buy the book. It’s an incredible achievement in itself. Books on film music don’t get written every day, and if we want more, it’s worth supporting this one.
Amazon.com: The Music of The Lord of the Rings Films: A Comprehensive Account of Howard Shore's Scores (Book and Rarities CD) (9780739071571): Doug Adams, John Howe, Alan Lee, Fran Walsh, Howard Shore: Books (http://www.amazon.com/Music-Lord-Rings-Films-Comprehensive/dp/0739071572/)
My guess is that people who have this problem are free users with no premium account, like me.
I’m trying to download this a second time now.
And I really don’t want the mp3 version.
And I might buy it soon. (no pressure)
Also, for lossless rips, EAC (Exact Audio Ripper) is preferred for ripping CDs in lossless formats (APE/FLAC/WAV/WV/AIF/etc)
It can connect to Accurip databases and compare results with other rips (if someone shared the results) to let you know if you ripped a perfect-ish copy.
You can create .cue files too for peeps who want to burn them to CD after with Nero or other.
The .log file is also good for people to know how it was ripped and if there were any errors.
Exact Audio Copy 0.99 prebeta 5 – VideoHelp.com Downloads (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Exact_Audio_Copy)
And here’s a quick setup guide that’ll give you good results for your rips.
Sonic On The Net • View topic – How To Rip 1:1 Copies of Audio CDs Using Exact Audio Copy (http://www.soniconthenet.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=2656)
I believe it installs flac as well, which is what you’ll need if you want to rip in FLAC formats.
Generally FLAC (level 8) is more favored over APE or WavPack.
Here’s the official site for FLAC
FLAC – download (http://flac.sourceforge.net/download.html)
Thanks for all the info, sparktank, I guess I forgot to mention I’m on a Mac, so none of the guides applied directly to my setup, but they were enough to get me started.
I re-ripped the CD, this time using XLD, which connects to Accurip and all that jazz. It’s in FLAC this time around and doesn’t have errors on the last track like the previous rip. I’ve included the .log and the .cue files.

1) no copyrighted material is hosted on this server … had we received a polite email asking us not to post FSM soundtracks we would’ve happily complied as we’ve done with varese and a few others.
…
2) the purpose of this forum is to share music that otherwise wouldn’t be available, such as soundtracks that weren’t released commercially, soundtracks that are out of print, and fan-made soundtracks. our moderators and administrators are here to remove music that shouldn’t be here; threatening them makes absolutely zero sense.
In this spirit, I ask that some responsible moderator please close this thread and remove these links. This is brand-new, commercially available music. Doug Adams (a frequent FSM contributor) poured his heart and soul into this for nine years. He’s not rich, and this is money out of his pocket. Once again, please close this thread and remove these links.
I’d like 2 c more Apple Lossless on here because, other than WAV, it is the only way lossless music can go into an ipod.

well its not ALL synth demos, it has more GONDOR THEME for crying out loud and in Fellowship too!

You wouldn’t happen to know the whereabouts of the film version of "A Far Green Country" from Return of the King, would you? Or possibly the film mix version of "The End of All Things/Sammath Naur"?
I’m sorry, but I didn’t understand what you wrote… Could you say it in another way, please ?
Ah, right !!! Well, indeed the film version is different: it contains humming voices, but it have never been released, unfortunately…

Isn’t that just an edit? like the first few notes repeated?
I didn’t here other differences…
No, it’s almost like the film version is just the harmony of the theme, whereas the score version has the harmony and melody. I’m glad to see an explanation from Doug Adams; I had thought at one point that the film version borrows from the near-end of "The Grey Havens". It’s not quite the same, but it is similar. If you want to and extremely sh*tty edit of the track in question, pop on over to this YouTube page full of tracks stolen from my edits: The Return Of The King- A Far Green Country (Film Version) – YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wsd8Q5Ft-DU&feature=plcp&context=C238a1UDOEgsToPDskJQIQrr2B5NZOWECVinEG5V)

might I request a possible reup of the flac please? just started getting into lots but never got this :/
Oh true. I don’t have the original sot’s just the completes. I am looking for use well the days in flac, though.
Very rarely, have I seen composers for films also do work on the video game adaptations of said films. And if they do (Steve Jablonsky for Transformers comes to mind), their video game compositions are usually entirely original and unrelated to their film compositions. On top of that, if music from the movie gets used, it’s hardly ever anything more than the OST. Exceptions to this fact are Star Wars and Indiana Jones (I think).
But probably none of that helps in trying to identify what xKorix was remembering. I just know it was disappointing to hear some totally unrelated action music from TTT during the final battle with Gollum in the RotK video game, instead of, you know, "The End of All Things". There was absolutely no unreleased music from those GameCube games, and they came out around the releases of the movies…so, actually more than six or seven years ago.

They’re actually from the original soundtracks
Concerning Hobbits (Alternate 2): Nowhere close to the version heard on the OST. Closer to the version heard on the CR, except that there’s an alternate insert.
The White Wizard (Alternate): I have this named as "Gandalf the White". As far as I know, this track is not on the OST. It is, however, a shorter version of "Gandalf the White" from the CR and also features several alternate inserts. That’s just from looking at it through Audacity; I haven’t listened to it in a while, but I know it is different…I think the choir might be different.
Forth Eorlingas (Alternate): I think this should properly be called Alternate 2, as this cue appears on both the OST and the CR and all three are different. I don’t know specifics, but just viewing them through Audacity, I can tell they are not all the same version of that cue.
Dernhelm in Battle (Alternate): As far as I know, this track is not on the OST. This track is 48 seconds shorter than the version heard on the CR. They both appear to be about the same track until about 53 seconds and then the alternate changes.
Also, the overall sound quality (the mastering?) is different for those tracks for reasons I am not sure of.
Enjoy

I believe most of them are from the Fanclub credits on the EE DVD’s after the normal credits.
It was re-uped in Porko Rosso’s "most complete" LOTR thread a few days ago.
