Hey cooljacker, thanks for sharing these! I had a question for the community, those who have heard these different versions — what all is the difference between the Soundtrack and the Image Album? I always get confused with these Studio Ghibli films that have multiple soundtracks releases/versions. I read somewhere that an Image Album was music inspired by the film’s storyboards…. so would this mean, none of these tracks actually overlap with the soundtrack itself, but that maybe they were original compositions, or more like tone poems inspired by the film?

thegrizz70x7, a image album is more and less like you said. The music is composed based on the storyboards and at times used or not in the films, but usually is "less" arranged than the final version heard in the finished movie. Basically it’s like a demo version of the music.

Hey Sanico, thanks for the clarification–always good to know one was vaguely along the right train of thought :-). I still find it interesting that Japan (or at least Ghibli) has the wide variety of soundtrack formats, seems a much more complete way to showcase a composer’s whole body of work on a film.

Anyways, as a random addition, I am including below a link to a Cover I just made for "The Borrower Arrietty" in english. I love making alternate covers for my soundtracks in Photoshop, so it’s about time I start sharing some of them. Normally, for my purposed I tend to shrink them to 600×600 pixels for iTunes usage, but I’ll just attach it here in the largest size available. Hope you enjoy.

You’ve got the link about your question in general, but I only want to answer it directly about these albums here: image album has more vocal versions of songs from the soundtrack, and they also have some instrumental parts slightly altered and there are few songs which are not included in the OST. To sum it up even shorter, it’s definitely worth to download both, image and ost album.

No. Download flac and convert it to mp3 yourself (using foobar2000 and lame mp3 encoder would be one way of doing it). Or find other upload that’s already in mp3, either here or with google, there are plenty of mp3 uploads out there.

Thank you! But I’m having some difficulty with part two of the soundtrack and part one of the image album. They keep stopping between 8 and 12% and saying they’re finished. 🙁

Mediafire can have some server issues from time to time, try again later and don’t download anything else, just so you make sure the connection doesn’t break. You could also try some download managers with resume support, like jdownloader.

Although I have to say you’re the first to have problems with the OST (and the second with image album lol), I guess that’s expected, I’ve posted this quite some time ago (and the OST has over 1000 downloads, holy shit xD)

Ah no fixed it. after downloading, and you extract the files and if it don’t work, just means the download stopped. you have to watch the whole thing download other wise you wont know if its downloaded fully! or not. Thanks finally downloaded them again! 4th time/try 😛 THANKS!

As I said earlier, this download manager is very good, if the download brakes, there’s a resume option. It may need some time to get used to it though…

Hey, just figured I’d mention it but part 1 of the Image Album isn’t working right. When I go to download it from mediafire it only downloads an html file. Part 2 saves as a .rar, so not sure what’s going on.
