Alright as some of you may have heard, Nickelodeon has given the greenlight to the original creators of Avatar: The Last Airbender to make a new Avatar series focusing on the next avatar after Aang.
The Legend of Korra takes place 70 years after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender and follows the adventures of the Avatar after Aang – a passionate, rebellious, and fearless teenaged girl from the Southern Water Tribe named Korra. With three of the four elements under her belt (Earth, Water, and Fire), Korra seeks to master the final element, Air. Her quest leads her to the epicenter of the modern “Avatar” world, Republic City – a metropolis that is fueled by steampunk technology. It is a virtual melting pot where benders and non-benders from all nations live and thrive. However, Korra discovers that Republic City is plagued by crime as well as a growing anti-bending revolution that threatens to rip it apart. Under the tutelage of Aang’s son, Tenzin, Korra begins her airbending training while dealing with the dangers at large.
The new series will take place 70 years after the original series. The new avatar will be of course from the water tribe obviously, and will be a teenaged girl. So 70 years later, minus about 15ish for the new avatar’s age, Aang was about 12-13 when the series ended, ………… So that means Aang died at about 68ish?……… Doesn’t sound like he died of old age…… So if there’s an anti-bending revolution, does that mean he was murdered because he’s the most popular and most powerful bender?
I’m really excited to see how the steampunk stuff comes out. I also would like to see some cameos of our original characters. Anyone wanna bet that Guru Pathik will somehow be in there somewhere? Old geezer didn’t seem like he was going to die anytime soon lol.
So Aang had a son named Tenzin…… Most probably he married Katara. Curious to what Tenzin can do. Will he be a bender? What would his element be?……
What does everybody else think? 🙂
How ironic that the movie which inspired my interest would be such garbage, but I digress.
I’m really interested in this. My main question at this point is how long it’s being planned for. Will it be a single-season spin-off or is it going to last longer?
Good question though, I didn’t give any thought to that. Since the new avatar already knows 3 elements at the start of the show, it’s highly probable that it could be a short series 🙁
edit – I just thought of something else I’d like to see in the new series. I wanna see someone that found Sokka’s meteorite sword.
edit 2 – I just added the wikia page and according to that "Jeremy Zuckerman has said he will ‘absolutely’ return to compose the music for the show, during a panel at Comic-Con 2010." WOOT!
Book 0: Air
A prequel to the main series that sort of shows, better, the the events that lead to the Fire Kingdom’s war and how Anng learned airbending.
Uh, hello? Boomerang?
and i want to know about zuko’s mom too.
I hate how vague Jet’s ‘death’ was. It was very unclear 😮
I just thought of something else though…….. will Korra have a pet?
‘Legend of Korra’: The ‘Avatar’ Creators on the New Spinoff – Speakeasy – WSJ (http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2010/07/21/legend-of-korra-the-creators-of-avatar-the-last-airbender-on-the-new-spinoff/)
According to this interview, it looks like Aang’s body actually aged when he was frozen. But the whole killed in the "anti-bending revolution" is a great idea. I always thought in the Avatar world benders would seem superior to second-class non-benders, and this would lead to some kind of backlash.
Ya the movie was garbage…….. What a twist! :p

I love how the original creators and even the Track Team is back for this series. I wanted them to be more involved in the live action movie, but there were so many problems with the thing it probably wouldn’t even be worth it.
^ That’s what I wanted too 🙁 I also want some kind of special with Zuko trying to find his mother >.< Stupid cliffhangers.
I can’t believe we still don’t know what happened. A Zuko’s mom special would be awesome.
Exactly. They could produce a tv movie or a mini-series.
😀
Looks Kyoshi, Roku, Aang, and Korra there in the beginning… Sticking with the Avatar only characters this time around.

Looks like the show got a bit steampunk! Almost lookin’ like Full Metal Alchemist in that first bit….

Definitely shaping to be a different experience. I’m looking forward to it…..
Katara said most everyone was gone already……. Doesn’t look like we’ll be getting those cameos we hoped for….
kind of special with Zuko trying to find his mother
question of Longshot and Smellerbee’s whereabouts
i want to know about zuko’s mom too.
A Zuko’s mom special would be awesome.
All this and more in the upcoming Dark Horse book "The Promise: Part 1"
Except for Sokka’s sword. That was absent.
It leaked online if you want to go that route. Otherwise, I think it’s slated for a February release.
Here’s some new stuff. First scene from Avatar: The Legend of Korra shows our heroine kicking butt (UPDATED) (http://io9.com/5876238/first-scene-from-avatar-the-legend-of-korra-shows-our-heroine-kicking-butt/gallery/1)

amazon – "Written by National Book Award Nominee Gene Luen Yang (American Born Chinese), in close collaboration with series creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko,…. "
I must buy these 😯
That’s cool. If it’s anything like the Lost Adventures one then it will be good for the shelf. Full color on nice paper stock and a decent length.
Only problem is Aang’s face on the cover looks less like incurable prankster and more like rape-face.
SPIRIT WORLD!
OT:
This series just needs to come out already!
Plus we could at least get a cameo out of Aang if he mentors Korra the same way Roku did for him.
Rumour is that Aang is seen with a beard in the title sequence.
*watched it again*….. Wait Aang doesn’t have a beard there :eye: He’s just taller….

Oh yeah. First episode was cool. Spoilered for spoilers.
Like the shout-out to the Zuko’s Mom inquiries.
I think the homeless bush guy was voiced by the same guy who did the crazy multiple personality boatman in The Painted Lady.
I hope there is an arc where Korra has to learn metalbending. The police were pretty cool.
Lin was kind of a bitch. Wonder if there is a story behind that.
Was it really necessary to announce the Avatar’s arrival? I would have kept that secret.
Fuckin Steve Blum voices the villain. This can only lead to good things.
Watch.
TV.
What?
Seriously, it was a pretty good two episodes.
