Since no one can help me with posibly reorchestrating some of the missing music from the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy’s soundtrack, here’s a new approach. This is more of a technical question, since I can’t find much about it elsewhere on the Internet.

If someone were to extract the audio from a Blu-ray disc (in the same fashion that you would do for a DVD disc), would there be any more or less sound effects in the resulting audio channels. I ask this not having a Blu-ray player on my computer and wanting to know if an audio extractor even exists for Blu-ray.

Blu-ray discs are encrypted, so they can’t be ripped like a DVD. Really unfortunate. Even if you could though, I’m sure it’d be the same surround sound mix as on the DVDs, they just use higher sampling rates and bit depths, and use less or lossless compression.

See, I thought I read somewhere that some Blu-rays have separate tracks for stuff like music and dialogue. That would be quite a treat if we had technology to get this type of audio.

It would also just be fantastic if some composers–AHEM! Hans Zimmer!–would just release complete soundtracks.

Actually, I apparently stand corrected. I just happened upon this last night while looking for other things. http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=141829

Since other people are able to do it, maybe you can. I don’t even have a Blu-ray drive so I’m afraid I can’t help any further.

Great! Thanks a lot! Now all I need is to be able to understand it all and buy a disc drive that reads Blu-rays. Maybe it is new technology, so it still isn’t fully functional–by the looks of the following comments on the link you provided.

I hope someone here will consider giving this a try, that is if they have a blu ray drive player on their computer to extract the audio. Although, hd dvd can work on any computer.

Yes, I do too. I can’t believe no one else has thought of this. It could potentially give us higher quality [and less SFX] soundtracks. Of course, this is all just speculation.

Can’t you just download bluray mkv files with AC3 audio tracks?

Can’t you just download bluray mkv files with AC3 audio tracks?

Please explain, possibly in simple terms.

Has anyone tried Blu-Ray Pure Audio Discs? I think this might be pretty interesting but I don’t know if it would sound any better than a CD. Could anyone who has tried these discs give me your opinion on them because if they sound better than CD I will start buying them.

Pretty sure it’s just marketing bullshit, like most audio related things.
