Got bored and created a windows 98 virtual machine, now I need things to put on it.

So far I have

Wizards & Warriors
Might and Magic 6
Heroes of Might and Magic 2
Sim City 3000

Need more nostalgia.

Final Fantasy VIII
Half-Life

…and no idea what else. I’m not much of a PC gamer.

Just beat FFVIII on my playstation a few months ago so that’s out, half life is a good one though, thanks!

I have some kind of premium bundle of the first three Half-Life games. It was I think around $50-$70 when it was new but hopefully you can find one cheaper because those were some fun games.

I haven’t played this in years and years, so it’s totally possible that I’m wearing nostalgia goggles, but I really loved the game Sanitarium.

I was all about Warcraft 2 too.

I think there’s a King’s Quest pack you can get that’ll work on Windows 98 too, if you are a point and click adventure fan!

edit: nevermind, I looked it up and it’s for XP. 🙁 You should be able to play King’s Quest VII on Windows 98 though, which is my favorite in the series.

Edit:
I forget: MegaMan X series. I think X1 and X2 is MS-DOS only tho, but I could be wrong.

X3 onwards is Windows 9x native, but prepare to have issues with the FMVs.

Uh, mang, these are DOS games. They do run under 98, but I strongly recommned using DOSBox on them over 98 because of unpredictability. I’ve had MS-DOS games that behave strangely or even BSOD the system under 98.

DoSbox isn’t necessary for any of them =]

I know. But the thing is, I have first hand bad experience of running DOS games under Win98, even on a real Win98 box. Issues ranging from lack of sound to loss of keyboard control to BSOD. You’re better off using DosBox or a virtual machine loaded with only DOS (or hitting F8 at boot and choosing to boot only to DOS mode) to play DOS games.

The Bitmap Brothers’ Gods: Into The Wonderful regularly BSODs under Win98 (probably due to it’s unique way of addressing sound cards- it does after all features sound and music that’s way ahead of it’s time. But for some reason functions that work when Windows is not running could crash the system if Windows is running). God Of Thunder and SkyRoads has no sound, only music (again due to unique ways it’s addressing the sound card) and while not a game, Borland’s Turbo Pascal would suddenly quit responding to the mouse and keyboard, except alt-enter which toggles between full screen and windowed. Which is frustrating if you’re working on your assignment halfway and it just refuses to let you save your work (yeah, I was in freshman year at college at that time).
