This sucks… hopefully Sony gets a fix out by the end of the week…
Were aware that many of you are having difficulty connecting to the PlayStation Network this evening. Those of you with slim PS3s (the 120/250 GB models) appear to be unaffected.
Know that we have narrowed down the issue and have engineers working to restore service even as you read this. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, and genuinely appreciate your patience while we work to resolve this.
In the meantime, you may want to follow our Twitter account (http://twitter.com/sonyplaystation) for the latest updates.
It’s not infallible it just has a really low failure rate. Almost unnoticeable.
You kidding? All i ever seem to hear is people ripping on that system.
Getting hit in the face with a brick is rare… doesn’t change that you got hit in the face though.

Words of wisdom, JC. But I’m sure that once the fix is made, everything will be back to normal…we console boys/girls are like that ya know?:D
Guess since the service is free, it’ll take a little longer to fix?
Shit happens and you deal with it. Seeing as how this problem just started yesterday, I’m willing to give them some time to fix the problem. If it was going to take a month to fix, maybe I’d feel like I need to be compensated, but not being able to play a video game for a day or two is not going to kill me. Sometimes, it makes you wonder if most gamers out there have not fu*** life… go outside, get laid, get a job… do something else except bitch that you can’t play a video game.

That was for emergency server maintenance iirc.
As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.
We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.
Errors include:
•The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
•When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
•When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install
trophies. Please exit your game.”
•When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
•Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.
We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.
As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.
For the latest status on this situation please continue to check either the PlayStation.Blog (http://blog.us.playstation.com/) or PlayStation.com. (http://us.playstation.com/)
When Xbox Live was down, it did make things annoying (not being able to play online) as what’s happening at the moment for PS3 users, but as far as I recall, there have been no real logging in errors/Achievements deleted/etc with Xbox Live as what’s happening with the PlayStation Network.
Let’s respect his position to distance himself from the current situation.

lulz.
Also, how can a clock have that much affect?
The idiots who are crying need a life. Chillax homeboy, it’s getting sorted innit.
Only because Sony jumped the gun and said it was. It was actually going to be on the PlayStation 2.

Seems because we pay for Xbox Live, we get better service than something which is free.
hi5, tool.
Agreed.

According to "unofficial community-compiled lists" cited by Digital Foundry, eight out of the eleven "fat" PS3 SKUs were affected by the faulty chip, easily totaling millions of units. If the problem wasn’t resolved quietly (perhaps too quietly, considering the dearth of updates on the company’s Twitter feed) and relatively quickly by the inevitable march of time itself, Sony would have been tasked with repairing millions of affected consoles; a burden exacerbated by said console’s inability to connect to the PlayStation Network.
Lucky for us, and infinitely more so for Sony, at 0000 GMT yesterday, PS3s the world over suddenly figured out what day it was and everything went back to normal. All that’s left to do is hope that Sony issues a patch to prevent the next apocalypse. (Isn’t that the one in 2012?)
hi5, tool.
this comment is god.
hi5, tool.
Because bitching about paying $50 a year for a service that’s more reliable than something free is awesome.
hi5, tool.
Play with:
The largest console gaming community
Most stable servers
Fastest download servers
And more DLC
is pretty awesome.
hi5, bro.
All I ever here from bitchy ass Xbox players. So frustrating. On Ps3 it’s so different. Not so many retarded children.
All I ever here from bitchy ass PS3 players. So frustrating. On Xbox 360 it’s so different. Not so many retarded children.
Fixed.
That makes it a glorified Wii then, since a Wii also has both an ARM and a PPC. Although, it does make you wonder why a Wii isn’t affected.
Luckily, my PS3 is a slim. Even if it was affected, I was too tired to touch the PS3 on Monday 😛
qft
But we all know The Odessey is the best.
You get them even on PSN. Play GTAIV, Saints Row 2 multiplayer and the ‘immature children’ are there as well. Whenever you play games online, you will ALWAYS get idiots. Fact of life.
2 Keep your douchebag kids off the 360.
3 That’s a huge lie.
How original.
It’s not just Xbox Live that idiots and immature children are on. Like I said, play any game online you’ll meet them. When I played Phantasy Star Online on my Sega Dreamcast, there were heaps there. Same with Guild Wars and especially WoW on PC. Yes, even playing games online on the PS3 there are idiots there as well. Saying that there isn’t, or intimating that there isn’t like you have KIDhero 10000 (You still are a kid, due to your posts in the Ballad of Gay Tony, in the Anime and Videogame thread show that.), shows that you are one of those immature twits.
Not that I’m bitching about it though, of course.
the internal clock thought it was a leap year so when going online and getting the date of march 1 instead of February 29 it got confused .
there’s a chance your save data might have been corrupted if you played any games during the glitch but everything is working properly now
was online yesterday afternoon.
That’s not an accurate fix. More parents buy their kids 360’s because they are cheaper. They come with free mics. And a lot of people will not even look into the fact PSN is free. A kid will see his friend has a 360 and demand one from his mummy. His mummy (after she finished being banged by her husband’s boss) will go out and get one.
So the 360 does have more annoying rats squealing down the mic.
And apart from this recent blip, I’ve never had an issue with PSN. I’ll most likely sign up for the premium when it’s out too. The way I see it, the current FREE version is almost faultless. So how good will the premium version be?
SEX IN THE SHOWER FANTASTIC I PREDICT!!
Oh,
yeah , it fixed itself

Thanks for the update. I was wondering when I would be able to get back online..
Firstly, depends on which Xbox 360 bundle you get, comes with a free mic. Secondly, just because something is free, doesn’t mean it’s good. Thirdly, the PS3 is the same price as the Xbox 360 (Exception being on which console bundle you get at the time), so it boils down to the consumer in question as to which they’ll get.
So the 360 does have more annoying rats squealing down the mic.
Every game which you can play online, and speak with others over a mic, WILL have assholes, immature little shits and so forth. Saying that they are only on Xbox 360 is blind and rather biased and opinonated. As PSN is free, while for Xbox Live you do pay a subscription fee, which will parents get for their kids? They’ll 9 times out of ten, get the one with the freebie so they don’t have to fork out more money. Having said that, yes there are assholes on Xbox Live. They are also on PSN.

I’ve had a Xbox 360 since 2006, and apart from regular scheduled maintenance, which subscribers are given a week’s notice, there has been no faults and such, like what happened recently with the PSN.
In all fairness, this was more of a software issue with the older model PS3s that prevented the system from connecting to the PSN. The PSN never actually went down since the slim models were able to connect with no problems. And given this is the first major issue seen with the PSN since it started, it really wasn’t that big of deal… except to the retarded gamers who have no lives and can’t live without their freakin’ PS3 for one day.
