Transcoding is the direct digital-to-digital conversion of one encoding to another (yay for wikipedia). OGG is a lossy codec for your information, it doesn’t store any information about the original waveform. So your transcoding (ur always transcoding anyway, doesn’t matter whatever codec or format), tranny, tranny, tranny.

If something is high bitrate, it doesn’t have to mean it’s lossless. The only thing u do is extract audio out of the game files (wich probably is alot of work since most games use custom decription of the game files), u just check the bitrate, but you never check spectrals of what you extract? Wich is stupid becuz then U don’t know if it’s worth the transcoding to 500kbps ogg afterall.

Ogg is not as transparent as MP3, almost nobody hears the difference (okay 128kbps is as low as you can go and if you don’t hear the difference between 128 and 320 then u should check hearing, but almost nobody hears the difference between 320 and 500).

Also, most of the people will transcode it again to mp3 wich is even worse. But hey can’t blame them, 500kbps takes too much space and ogg is not compatible with every portable playback device.

For people who care about the higher bitrate:

OrangeC, ur fucking fooling urself, if you want to do it right, do it in FLAC. It can even take less more space and it even can restore to the original waveform, OGG however not.

My transcode is not lossy->lossy but lossless(yes, checked spectral)->lossy, so it’s done perfect. If you don’t like the low bitrate, go away to your private forum. I’ve never said I wouldn’t release higher bitrate mp3’s, but not now however. U got it 128kbps, be happy.

If you don’t have the space for FLAC, then u probably don’t even have the space for OGG 500kbps VBR.

If you care so much about quality, then u would use a lossless codec as FLAC and not a lossy codec as vorbis OGG.

Just so people know, i wasn’t friends with Visculmania until after i posted in this thread, this was actually the first time i talked to him, other than thanking him for uploads. This thread was only brought to my attention just before i posted, so i wasn’t actually showing any favoritism towards anyone.

After talking to Visculmania in a pm i decided to leave the thread open to give it another shot at getting back on track, but then the link died and some people just couldn’t let things go. So that’s why i closed the thread, so that another petty argument didn’t start.

If people don’t like my moderating, and it’s pretty obvious who they are, then they can report me to one of the admins because i’m really sick of people whining and complaining about my moderating.
