At any rate, it’s nice to think that finally the hype on it will go down somewhat. Even though millions of FFVII fanatics will be slitting their wrists over this, it’s nice to see some closure on the matter. I myself used to be all for it. But then, I got to thinking, why? The original already has a very distinct mood and feel to it that already was wiped away by every Compilation title, and a remake would feel too much like a different game.

The title of this thread is "FFVII remake debate finally over", which is not true. Not as long as they keep playing this little game of theirs. We haven’t heard anything definitive as of yet.

I don’t see why so many FF fans regard VII as the apex of the franchise, to hear some of these fans talk it’s like nothing existed before VII and when you ask about FF I, IV, or VI they don’t have a clue about those games but are more than happy to discuss VII or X *shudders*…

tbh I could tolerate a VII remake over anymore X installments, even though said remake may or may not dash the hopes and dreams of said fans.

13 years later, and people are still clambering and wetting their pants in the vain hope of a FFVII remake. True Nomura is being rather… evasive regarding whether it is NOT being made ever, or anytime soon.

My own personal views on this matter are pretty much well known by now I would think, but I think the reason SE hasn’t stated either "Yes, we’ll be making it by <insert random date here>" or "No, we will never remake it", is probably due to all the FF fandom wanting it. If they make it and give it to the fans, there’s a possibility they’ll lose fans. If they don’t make it, there’s the same possibility of losing fans. Hence they’ll probably keep people waiting/begging for a remake and give cryptic and evasive comments when asked:

"When will Final Fantasy VII be remade?"

Seems like people are more interested in a remake than the actual game they’ve already got. I would say if all the fanatics love it so much, they’d be smart to appreciate what they’ve already got. Nobody can be kept happy anymore.

I think they need to give V and VI the same treatment IV got, and then be done with all the remakes of games. At this point I say leave ’em. With the remakes of the first six, they’re finding an audience in newer gamers who may not be as into the older graphics styles. And, to appeal to their veteran fans who’d love to see new life given to their favorite characters. I say there’s no reason not to.

Here’s my theory; let’s say they did remake FFVII. Okay, all’s well and great, and woa, this game looks awesome, yada yada yada. What then? As I said before, these fanatics just can’t be kept satisfied. They’ll immediately find flaws with it. Pretty soon they’ll hate it. It wouldn’t matter what Square did–keep the gameplay the same, change it up, whatever–the fanatics would find something to gripe about. It would be undeniably inevitable. People bitched about IV and III’s remakes too. And I & II. I can just about guarantee the novelty of any potential remake would wear off almost within days. Fanatics would finally lose their FFVII-boner and just go back to playing the PSX version anyway.

I do find it humorous how people seem to classify all FFVII fanboys into the same category of being relentless, arrogant, stubborn, annoying and raging idiots. I love FFVII, it’s my favorite in the series and I’ve liked it for a number of years now and my adoration of the game isn’t because of Nostalgia or because I bought into hype. My first FF game was actually FFVIII which got me into the series in the first place. Just because it’s my favorite in the series that doesn’t mean I’m going to swear up and down that the games creation was the second coming of Christ or something. It’s a great game but there really is no "best" installment in this series or any other series actually. It’s just a matter of personal opinion.

I think I was wrong in how many copies FFVII sold on PSN because as of 2 weeks of it’s release it sold 100,000 copies(1). Just wanted to clarify that error. =) I’m not sure how many it’s sold since though. But yeah, I’d honestly rather see a remake of FFV or FFVI or maybe a remastered version of FFVIII with all the plotholes fixed. Yes, I know FF7 had plot holes as well but FF8 didn’t even make sense at times to me. Regardless I enjoyed it though.

Last night, my last customer needed to buy a gas can and some gas due to his car running out of gas (obviously). His phone rang and his ringtone was "One-Winged Angel". I said "nice" just because it was FF (not because it was FFVII. I wouldn’t mind having a FF ringtone actually…ANYWAYS). Well after that, he started going on about how great FFVII is thinking I was going to agree or something. I said I’m more of an FFVIII guy myself. I basically said FFVII was garbage and that Cloud was a waste of pixels and his character was a spikey, blond-haired pussy that isn’t even close to being on Squall’s level. Not only does Squall change (unlike Cloud) in the story, but in the end, Squall gets the girl.

He got so made and decided to purchase his stuff across the street at 7-Eleven. I’ve never felt so proud :D!

I’ve had a similar incident happen to me when I was working in a supermarket. Man, the guy got so angry, he threw all his groceries on the ground, stomped on them… then threw a punch at the nearest person.

What he neglected to look at… the person he hit was a member of biker gang. You can imagine what happened next LOL.

Since most of Clouds memories are Zacks that means that Zacks love for Aeris carried over to Cloud. This does make a lot of sense as to why he was so instantly drawn to her and why Aeris would always say that he reminded her of her first boyfriend. However these are just theories. I honestly believe that Cloud had feelings for Tifa but they were overpowered by Zacks memories.

Reading this thread made me realize I need to play FFVIII again. My mind is set on leaving VIII at the bottom of the barrel, with only FFII under it.

I tried a long time to beat FFVIII, but my discs were fucked up for YEARS, until a couple years ago when I borrowed my friend’s copy. After beating it, I was left disappointed, and confused. I recently popped in Disc 4, and beat the last boss again, only to be horribly confused by the vague and cryptic ending, which pretty much lead me to shun it.

Yes I’m someone who also puts FFVII on the top of them all, but I’m still in the middle of FFVI, so leave me be. lol

But I have an open mind. You won’t see me getting pissed at a gas station lol. I need to replay FFIX first though, so anyone care to logically enlighten me as to how FFVIII is better? Or at least point me to a review or something? The fact it’s beating FFVII in current PSN downloads leads me believe there’s SOMETHING more to VIII, right?

From my experience…
You may find FFVIII gameplay more fun than VII, mainly because when you understand how things work with building your party & equipment things get very easy and there’s no need of grinding lvls which that’s something that I’d never liked, the thing with VIII battle system is that it’s kind of broken, you can attach magic to your attributes & have high stats at low level but the monster level up as you do, so when you have good magics on your attributes at low level the game is cakewalk, but the sidequests of VIII & the FMV are the real thrill of the game, the rest is just not that interesting, the story I found it stupid, it’s full pack of contradictions here and there, I’m not going to spoil you anything if you don’t remember the story, the character development didn’t make sense, the characters(specially the main ["hero"]) have personality shifting disc through disc without any consistent good reason, but that’s based on my tastes man, I encourage you to play it again, you’ll have plenty of good times watching some of the FMV’s, doing the side quests & fighting Omega Weapon.

I level up. Because I like the challenge. And being level 100 while fighting Omega Weapon makes him the strongest and toughest boss in all the FF games. Took a while to finally get him because he kept doing a one hit KO move on me from the start. But that’s a story for some other time.

I read it in some wiki that he’s the strongest FF monster while fighting him at level 100. And it was his Light Pillar or whatever. Because all my characters would have the Ribbon ability equipped so that death spell wouldn’t work iirc. I’ll try to find that page where it says he’s the strongest.

You can Card Mod the Gilgamesh card into 5 Holy Wars. You can repeat this, by winning the card back from the CC Queen in Disc 4 (I’m unsure about earlier though) and continue to mod until you have 100 of them.

Considering how many FFVII fanboys think that FFVII is the second coming of God and tear into others who think otherwise, why can’t I tear into them? Regarding FFXIO, you haven’t played it, therefore you base your assumptions on hearsay and third person information. lol amusing thread. I actually enjoyed FFVII back in the day. I never wanted to see a remake tho. Without trying to cause arguements remakes seem to be a very American thing to me. I never understood why people can’t just leave things as they were/are. More often than not the original is far better than the remake. Don’t get me wrong, some remakes are good, if not better than the original but that happens very rarely. So ppl just leave FFVII where it is, its a good game, a sucessful one at that, if you want a remake, just play the game again.

As has already been stated, whilst it’s not everyones cup of tea, FFVII became iconic even with it’s seemingly "blocky" graphics. In my opinion the "blocky" characters actually add to the game.

Remaking it to the PS3 Tech Demo standard would probably damage the game in all honesty, and it would result in dissapointed fans and a lot of time and money wasted by Square Enix.

Fans should keep dreams and reality seperate. In much the same way FFVII should keep blocks and pre-rendered backgrounds seperate from high-definition.

I disagree when it comes to Crisis Core. It felt quite the same. Only the slums were a bit more messed up in the original, but everything else felt the same, just improved.

Another thing I should add is that the music is so different in those three, it also alienates them from the original on so many levels. There’s something about that glitchy MIDI sound of the original’s soundtrack that complemented it and these new techo/orchestral soundtracks don’t do the story the same justice.

I think they should just stop messing with VII already. The game was good, but with them milking it to death is making me dislike it a lot. I don’t think it’s the best in the series, definately not one meriting a remake, but I’m actually kind of glad that they are messing up this one instead of one of the better games in the series. I don’t want to see an overhaul of the classics or any sequels or prequels to them either. I think they should just leave the previous games alone and just focus on making new titles already. But that’s just my opinion and I know that there are plenty of people (esp fanboys) that would disagree.

III and IV had rubbish graphics on DS. Truly took away from the experience. IV was awesome but the graphics irritated me so much.
