In a recent issue of Nintendo Power they compiled a top 12 Legend of Zelda games list. The list is as follows…

I was never good at top lists. I like them all and Zelda 1 is just awesome.

I haven’t played many Zelda games… but here’s my order of preference from what I have played…

1. A link to the past (The best imo)
2. Zelda 1
3. Ocarina of Time
4. Majora’s Mask
5. Link’s Awakening.

I played Link’s Awakening once. It seemed okay to me. Some of it was hard… but Zelda II is harder.

I played Link’s Awakening once. It seemed okay to me. Some of it was hard… but Zelda II is harder.

I think Link’s Awakening is so high on my list for being my very first Zelda game and one of the most memorable Game Boy games I ever played. I played that game to death when I was younger. I remember loving the boss battles, especially the underwater one. And I agree with you that it can be hard. I remember it took me awhile to figure out to use my shield to push the spiky things out of the way in the very beginning. And of course the dungeon where you have to take that ball and knock down all the pillars.

You get to jump in Link’s Awakening. That pretty much makes it awesome on its own 😉

I wish I could play it right now in fact.

I have that game twice, Regular and DX version.

I remember playing it on that thing where you inserted the game boy game in it and then you put it in your Super Nintendo so you could play it on your tv.

I’d suggest you at least give A Link to the Past a try. One of the greatest games on the SNES ever, imo.

I think I was confused about which game was "Link’s Awakening". I thought "Zelda II" was also dubbed "Link’s Awakening", but I might have been mistaken.

Ah, thanks. That’s what came to my mind and I mistakenly associated it with "Link’s Awakening". My bad.

I have no opinion of "Link’s Awakening" since I never played it, but I’m sure it’s better than Zelda II.

I bought a copy of Link to the Past off Ebay a few months ago. In pristine condition as well, though I do think it had been re-shrinkwrapped. Still, it’s in my SNES collection now. Paid about $20AUS for it, I got lucky when bidding on it lol

Link’s Awakening is my favorite, though I pretty much stopped playing the series after that.

Adventures of Link was good too. My save erased twice at the last dungeon though so I never beat it.

Only based on what I’ve played, I’d have to go in this order.

Their cheesiness is what makes them even better.

To be honest, I don’t get the hate. Yea, the controls are a bit stiff, but that isn’t the game’s fault, only the console’s. The CD-i Zelda games were actually some of the best games on that console, and while that system was pretty shitty, the Zelda games were really fun.

But seriously, above the 64 Zeldas???

At any rate, I thought Nintendo Power’s list was terribad. Here’s my list, and I’m right.

1. Twilight Princess. While it didn’t introduce stuff like some of the other games, the story was better, the characters were better (Midna in particular), and the gameplay was head and shoulders better.

2. Link to the Past. Pure nostalgia puts this one over Ocarina for me.

3. Ocarina of Time. Objectively, I wouldn’t argue with people placing this one ahead of Link to the Past.

4. Link’s Awakening. I was much younger when I played this, but damn, was this game ever hard!

5. Everything else. I’ve played the first two NES games and something else that I can’t remember.

Wind Waker is the best Zelda game ever. Twilight Princess is OoT for the Wii/GCN.

Now, I can’t pick favorites with Zelda games, just like I can’t pick favs with FF games; they’re all unique and diverse in their own way, and have their own individual charm. But, difficulty can have a strong impact on one’s liking for a game, and in this case I think that’s the only way I can really judge them, so here goes;

(From hardest to easiest)
1. Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (the only one I’ve never ever come close to beating)
2. The Legend of Zelda (it’s that old-school difficulty that gets me)
3. Wind Waker (where the hell was I supposed to go next again?? :O)
4. Majora’s Mask (love it, but it sure ain’t easy!)
5. Link’s Awakening (try being a 7 year-old who can’t even figure out how to get through the first friggin’ dungeon)
6. A Link to the Past (it’s like FFIII; the perfect challenge)
7. Ocarina of Time (this game is amazing)
8. Twilight Princess (I never stumbled across anything too difficult, I beat it with ease, and had a blast!)
9. Phantom Hourglass (This right here is the greatest DS title I’ve ever played next to FFIII! Makes such awesome and creative use of the touch screen! LOVE IT!!!!!)

And there you have it. If I didn’t include anything here, it’s just because I’ve never played it, such as Four Swords; WHY must I find someone else who owns the game just to friggin’ play the damn thing?? I was never lucky enough to have friends who were into the same stuff I was 🙁

I haven’t played that many, especially the portable ones. For some reason I can’t stand portable Zeldas. I’ve tried them, but they just don’t sit well with me, I am a console Zelda person.

I was pretty much the same – by the time the series shifted onto the N64 I just lost interest in it. Ocarina of Time was amazing to look at, but the actual story and gameplay just bored me to tears. And each successive one (Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and that stupid steam train one that has just come out) utterly failed to captivate me.

Therefore, I will have to say that the SNES A Link to the Past is definitely my favourite. Fantastic game, that is still one of my favourite games of all time. And I still have my original boxed copy which I bought way back in 1994. Awesome stuff. 🙂

I often have trouble with deciding what’s my favorite/best of something but Majora’s Mask was just so different from all the other games with it’s setting and story line plus the 3 day thing allowed all the npc’s to have actual lives, you could fallow some of them around and they did stuff. I actually cared for them and it made the completion of side quests like the ones for the Malon sisters, Pamila’s mummy daddy, & especially the Kafi & Anju one feel emotionally important. And of course the time limit adds to the end of the world feel and provides added attention to even the most mundane things.

Majora’s Mask captivated me more than any other Zelda. =D
A Link to the Past was the one that got me started. I even pointlessly bought the gba remake so I can have LttP on the go, even if there aren’t computers around for me to plugin a usb drive and play via emulator.

I admit I am not so fond of Wind Waker, but I love every Zelda… maybe except CDI… XD

My favorite game has to be "Link to the Past". I am really missing out the games that came out for the N64, so my list is pretty short.

I watched my Zelda loving friend beat: OoT, Majora’s Mask, Windwaker, and Twilight Princess. Just watching him made me didn’t want to play the game. I heard the Zelda game for the CD-I was horrid. I also never played the GB, GBC, or DS versions of Link. I did play as Link in Soul Calibur & SSBM for the GC and SSBB for the Wii, but that doesn’t count. ;_; My friends say I’m nasty with Zelda (I never turn into Sheik, because I don’t like her), but honestly, I ain’t no tournament player. I am just annoying. XD

My friend’s not tournament edition (but he’s quite close), but if you get him to someone one-on-one, he is quite deadly (usually plays as Peach). He says I’d be tournament edition if I knew how to dodge, block, and throw (I never do ANY of them).

Shiek doesn’t have the magical attacks like Zelda. I usually use the fireball a lot, use the spinning special to get opponents away from me or reflect stuff back at the opponent, teleportation to get out of harms way, and of course, I don’t use that ‘other’ special because I don’t like transforming into Shiek.

Grabbing and throwing is hard for me as well, I can never seem to make the guy grab when I want to and half the time I end up raising the clear shield for a split second instead of grabbing.

No the fightn’ game don’t count seeing as how they no be Zelda games but games with Zelda in them.
